hey, blacksmith here. Should you ever want to make more tiny knives i recommend using, instead of nails, some of that sawblade or an old dremel bit, as that is going to be the high carbon steel you need if you want your tiny knives to be sharp for those itty bitty precise cuts that you do. Also you would have more control if you used a wee ballpeen hammer. Also, when you hammer, try flipping the piece you are working over every few hits so it stays even. When you are shaping the knife itself, start by hammering down one side of the rod into a point, so it slopes to a point on one side, then flip it ninty degrees and just hammer out the non sloping side into the blade, as you thin it out it will take on a chef knife shape and save you lots of grinding.
