In this video, I will show you the process for creating miniature pillars cheaply and easily. These pillars will make a great addition to your table top roleplaying game, such as Dungeons & Dragons, or Pathfinder. Perhaps you could even use them in a Warhammer 40K or Malifaux game? The possibilities are endless.

I've not finished the video but had to comment! WOW! I love it so far by using ordinary things into something fun. I've done little terrain making but I want to watch more and get back into it. Minis wanted their paint jobs . . .

Nice video very cool pillars can be used so many ways. Interesting thing about pillars is actually they weren't solid they were done in sections with a centering square or circle in the center. So if one tipped over it might crack pieces or chip edges but wouldn't look like a chopped down tree.

Love this video, very resourceful with the bottle tops and tissue paper cores. I'd never consider stuffing paper shells to create a durable center. Great stuff sir.

Make a mix of white glue water (about 50 - 50 is good) with a drop or 2 of dish soap in it. Use a cheap spray bottle mist the toilet paper it will dry and bond making it very durable. This is also good for spraying over flock so it lasts longer. You can experiment with different mixes 75% water 25% glue for different applications.

This is exactly what I've been hoping to find. For the table centerpieces at my wedding, I'm doing dioramas of literary locations, and this will help me build the temple at Delphi! I'm going to check out your other tutorials too. Is there any chance you could provide a list of the materials you used to make this? I want to make sure I buy the right stuff.
@MiniTerrainDomain

+Saskia Warren This is by far the most unique application of my techniques I've heard! Congratulations on your wedding! I used water bottle caps, but you could get the same effect with just about any type of soda or water bottle cap. For the pillars I used corrugated paper. I got mine from a Christmas cookie tin, but you should be able to get some from a craft store. I painted them using simple Apple Barrel acrylic craft paints. The foliage is clump foliage from a model/hobby store. Some of it is made using recycled coffee grounds and acrylic paint.

+Mini Terrain Domain I am so shocked and grateful that you replied so quickly!! Careful-- I might end up bugging you all the time for suggestions on how to make all the models I'm doing. How would you feel about being my diorama consultant? :P The sites I'm creating so far are the temple at Delphi, Bilbo Baggins's hobbit hole, Arliden's caravan (Name of the Wind), Arrakis (from Dune; I cannot for the life of me find a model of the sand worm), Avalon, faerie land, the Fire Swamp (Princess Bride), Shakespeare's Globe, Heart of Gold ( from Hitchhiker's Guide; a friend has offered to make a model of Deep Thought), Hogwarts (I expect this to be the most difficult), Narnia (just the lamppost and surrounding wood), the Nautilus (20k Leagues Under the Sea), the Lost Boys' tree house (Peter Pan), the Emerald City (The Wizard of Oz--just a ton of green glass bottles), Pemberley (Pride & Prejudice), and the Woods (setting for German and French fairy tales). Wow, I never would have guessed water bottle caps. That is all so ingenious! You are amazing. Thank you so much for your help and quick response!

Brilliant attention to detail ,but what always nips my head is the oversized weapons ,that figures hold , nobody ever seems to trim them down ?
@MiniTerrainDomain
@MiniTerrainDomain Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what the size of their weapons has to do with pillars and ruined pillars, but...sure. Often it's because the smaller weapons would be so delicate that they would break easily.

@MiniTerrainDomain
@MiniTerrainDomain 9 жыл бұрын
Konrad Ferlangen We don't yet have deposits on water bottles in the US. The flocking on these is from recycled coffee grounds. My buddy Nelson at Infinite RolePlay shows you how to use recycled coffee grounds and acrylic paint to make your own flocking on the cheap: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmGZfH-npZuKpdU

Awesome!!!!! Can you share the formula for the sewer water? I've just used hot glue gun, but like your look better. I'm making sewer stuff now and would like to create a boss room similar to yours. thanks

I got my texture paste formula from Infinite Roleplay. It is 4 baby powder, 2 parts white glue, and 1 part acrylic paint (color of choice). For mine, I made it with a browns and greens to give it a sludgey brown poo look. once it was dry, I added on a couple green washes, then sealed it all with a gloss water-based polyurethane coat. Here is the video link for Infinite Roleplay's recipe: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rorJfZxqmsaZers
