I was looking to get into mushroom farming, it will still be awhile but I had a few questions that to me are a bit basic but would be *helpful* to know if this is something I should be doing. 1: How big of a inoculation area do you need (veg room) to support a constant crop in the flower stage in a 1,000k sqft room. 2: Who do you find is the most consistent to sell to? I talked to people that deliver veggies and they said they would buy mushrooms, is that a good way to go? 3: How much $ would you make in a 1k sqft flower area per cycle (2 months?) I know it's different in different areas, but its give me a base idea. You don't have to answer of course but before I would get into a consultation I'd like to know if I even have a set up that could be profitable. Growing is the hard part and that's where I would be looking for real help, not just finding out if it's worth doing. Anyone that grows feel free to leave feed back =D Thanks!

Hi David I am a hobbyist but I can give you my best estimates to your questions since no one more suited yet has. 1. It's highly variable. Different species spread at different rates and the growing medium makes a big difference as well. The time to spawn a bag can be 10 days to 2 months. If your innoculation room has optimal humididy and temp, your spawn is vigorous, and your medium isn't too slmey or densely packed then 2-3 weeks is normal. Then regarding the grow room the time in there depends on how many flushes you do as well as growing conditions and species. If you only do 2 flushes you save 50% of the time compared to 3. In an 8 foot area you can stack 6-8 bags high in the innoculation room, whereas you can generally only fit 4-5 bags high in 8 foot grow space. So my novice rough estimate is you will need 2-4 times as much grow space as you have innoculation space. 2. Who you sell to will depend also on many factors, mainly the available markets, your production level, and your ability to deliver to various markets (time and vehicles). Generally for a small grower you will sell to farmers market only, next to restaurants, local small grociers, and small scale resellers such as veggie basket guys, and if you have more volume than you can sell then you go to large food distributors such as loblaws etc. 3. This one has way to many variables to answer. % of space used, number or layers, downtime between grows if any, species, growing conditions\yield, market conditions, avg revenue per lb, and of course cost of goods which can vary massively. I can say it's definitely possible to make a profitable small business with 1000sqf fruiting area.

This was great, thanks, been searching for "mushroom culture procedure" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Heenyan Mushroom Organifiction - (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my co-worker got amazing results with it.
