I’m a BMW tech at a dealer for 7 years now. Been averaging about 55-60 hours a week. I do my 8 hours though and clock out. I used to come in early and leave late during my early days, but now I want to spend more time away from work lol. A guy that used to work with me used to flag 90-110 hours A WEEK. But he was the first to work and the last to leave everyday. It’s a hustle! And efficiency is key.

Best work routing on a basic oil change is, inspect the car and drop the oil, while the oil is dropping do the mpi and send it. While the advisor is doing his job and putting together a quote for the customer, finish the oil change and ship the car and grab another and so on and so on. If you leave the car up on the bay without working on it it’ll just make your bay a “dead” bay useless it’ll stop you from pulling in more work.

Been at a Nissan dealer for 2 years now. I’m a lube tech and they recently put us on commission so I flag between 35-40 hours a week. The most I averaged a day was 14 hours. I don’t have a lot of experience but I’m trying to level up to be a mechanic. I know it may take a while before that happens. But watching your videos inspire me to keep trying and not give up.

One thing I'd add to help yourself: Read about TSBs or any other technical stuff when you don't have a car to work on. The less you have to ask others the more they'll ask you and the less time you'll spend looking clueless. Toyota especially has amazing technical resources. In terms of hours my advice to young techs is focus on getting good in a methodical way. The speed will come naturally with time and so will the hours over time. Some people take longer to get fast but it doesn't mean you won't get there. Be patient with yourself and you'll be happy to rarely or never work on a come back.

Bryan Moran Same here, though on a lesser scale. Only been up flat rate for at least 9 months. Lot of gravy work I sold and did, with some more bigger work like struts and inner tie rods here and there. Most I ever did was like 60 hrs. Thing is though, I grew into this type of stuff, so I’m not really that smart when it comes to some things like actual mechanical functions and wiring diagrams, but I’m still learning.
@bryanmoran37514 жыл бұрын
JapansSpeedDemon537 best advice I can give you is follow what nick has said in his video put in that extra time and show that you want that work. It’s paid off for me, it paid off for nick and it can pay off for you too. Also whatever system you use for your cars whether it’s a dealership specific or a system like alldata really look through wiring diagrams and see what they connect with what. For Toyota their wiring diagram system lets you pick and choose what wire goes where and what it interacts with allowing for a better and more clear diagnosis.
