I teach you how to DIY omamori lucky amulets, which are tokens usually purchased at Shinto Shrines or Buddhist Temples. They're made with brocade usually, and I'll be making them with fabric. You can put rice inside, ofuda, which are paper talismans, or other sorts of lucky items that might bring you luck. Don't open them if you receive one from someone else, as the charm will no longer work!
I listed glue as a material, as some omamori feature ofuda glued to the outside. I didn't do that this time, as I prefer to place them inside.
Different omamori have different meanings, so imbue each one you make with a different intention, be it luck while driving or studying.
This DIY project is great to do in an hour, and is perfect if you're bored.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Materials for this DIY project:
* Fabric (Brocade, Silk, Kimono fabric, cotton, felt)
* Stuffing (Polyester or cotton stuffing, you can get this from plushes)
* Nylon Cord
* Cardstock or Thin Cardboard
* Glue
* Needle
* Thread
* Scissors
* Things to put inside (Ofuda, rice, etc)

Thank you for this tutorial, I wanted to make my own charm, but only had seen written tutorials(which only help so much) but then I found yours! I will be using this soon, so thank you very much! And your knot demonstration works really well.

I think I have an alternative for the stuffing - I took a cotton pad and splitted it in two (like you do with chocolate filled biscuits to eat the inside first) then I took the most fluffy parts and stuffed the omamori. Works fine, I would say.

Sorry for the late response, do you mean specific paper charms? I think maybe searching for the specific one you want might come up as like love, peace, school, etc but I'm not sure if you mean the inside charm or a completed charm?

Is there any specific size for the fabric?
@peachizashi

Sorry for late response, it depends on how big you want your charm! Print size of the pattern also matters.

Honestly I don't know enough about this to give a concrete answer because I think there's a lot of cultural context and nuance for these kinds of amulets. in general it does bring luck though!

At what time would the ofuda go inside? Is it possible to write the ofuda directly onto the cardboard, or must they be two separate entities? Also, is cotton as stuffing required or could one stuff it with, say, fabric scraps? Great tutorial, by the way.
@peachizashi
@peachizashi 2 жыл бұрын
You can use fabric scraps, anything that's small enough to not be lumpy. And the ofuda goes inside when you're stuffing the stuffing/fabric scrap. You can write the ofuda on the cardboard if you want but I prefer like little paper strips because they're cuter haha
