Great tutorial :D Something I do for easy hair toggles, particularly for white base hair is set the blendshape and then under the material list, add the hair parts and add a color modifier and change the target to whatever I want it to be. It doesn't require any prior setup. If your hair isn't white, you might need to use emission mapping instead of color.
