Additional notes:
Rubber gloves are NOT necessary. I used them in one scene because I was jumping back and forth between tasks. Their only purpose was a quick escape!
I would love your feedback! This video is loaded with info. Is it helpful or overwhelming (too much info in one video?)
SUPPLIES:
✔️ plastic containers (recycled is great!)
✔️ salvaged paper
✔️ paper pulp- my recipe is linked below
✔️ paint
✔️ rope (storebought or handmade)
✔️ any other embellishments you like (optional)

⚱️ I really appreciate all the work that went into the making of this video as well as the vases. I'm so inspired to make some large vases (I've already made several smaller pieces inspired by your previous videos). It's tough, but if I had to choose a favorite it would be the white one with the indentations. Love it! 👏🏼

Thank you sharing Renee, your vessels are beautiful. I do have a question, though. how do you seal it and especially the lip, where the papier-mâché meets the plastic container, so that when water is added and spilled out, it doesn't seep into the papier-mâché (where the plastic container meet and the papier-mâché pulp).

The mod podge line has a few sealants that provide a water-resistant surface. I have two of them linked in my Amazon storefront (but there are more options in that product line): amzn.to/3YgqO0q I have pieces with plastic lip that I made for myself years ago that are holding up nicely!

⚱I looked for quite a while for a vase emoji. Then I found this, which is apparently a funeral urn. I'm going with it. OK, favorite vase - the large rustic whiteish vase with all the marks made from brush handles. Amazing. I just found your channel, even though I search for paper mache ALL THE TIME. Youube chooses to spread these things out I guess. I have been a paper mache artist for many, many, many years. I am really enjoying your channel. I rarely use paper mache pulp. Because I'm lazy and because I live in a really small place and it just has to sit on the floor in the kitchen in its bucket and I trip over it and the dogs knock it over and it's a thing. I make mostly characters with my paper mache and I have found that if I want very fine details I use cotton. Unrolled cotton balls. I switch to a cooked cornstarch glue for the cotton (because watered down PVA and cotton do not play nice). And I make some art dolls with clay embellishments, and I use a store bought air dry clay. Your work is quite wonderful. I subscribed. Thanks for posting.

Is " pulp" different than paper clay?
@createdbyrenee
@createdbyrenee 4 күн бұрын
Basically the same! In my studio, paper clay is pulp's finer, smoother sister. Made the same way, but more kneading and blending makes a compound that can hold smaller, finer details. Some creators use toilet paper to make it, but I prefer recycling!

Thank you! When I've made planters for plants in soil, I made the holes in the plastic, then added the paper pulp and reinforced the holes. For these vases, no holes because they're just meant to hold water and flowers. Hope that helps!

Question...the balloon vase VIDEOS on here...im trying to make one. Well...i failed 6times. Don't no wat im doing wrong. Did exactly wat the VIDEOS said do. If u could look up on here How to make a vase with a balloon. Not the video's that use paper mache. But the video that fill plaster or cement inside the balloon. Those the two ways to make it. Back to my question...do u think i can use this paper pulp to make the balloon vase after paper macheing it?
@NekoleJ.
@NekoleJ. 2 ай бұрын
I'm asking cuz like I said trying the pouring plaster inside the balloon method isn't working for me. It keeps cracking inside the balloon. So....I'm going to try the paper mache method & was wondering if I can use the paper pulp. If it would work or not. Would love if u could do a video on it.
@createdbyrenee
@createdbyrenee 2 ай бұрын
I'm familiar with that technique and have worked with both plaster and cement. I can save you time: it would collapse using paper mache as well. Both cement and plaster have a mystical way of heating up while they cure. Both the heat and the weight of either would make a rubber balloon or paper prone to collapsing. I personally wouldn't waste the time and materials. BUT it might be a good idea to pose the same question to the creators who have successfully made a vase using that technique.🙏🏽

I think I'm going to rip it off and start this technique. I've never seen it before so I'm going to look at how to make it and smooth it. How are you water proofing once finished.
