Tips: Add flood fill to the PCB artwork. It will use much less acid, take less time, and less undercut of traces since those traces are exposed to acid for less time. 🙂 You might find acetone or nail polish removes the paint faster. Also lookup using the zip lock baggie and rubber roller technique which is easy, cleaner (IMO) and uses less acid than a tank. Contemplating buying a laser today, this just looks easy - in such a good way. 😎

My friend, which spray paint did you use? The blue color paint was in purpose or not intentional? Which power level on the laser engraver machine did you use? Full power? 50%?
@EmbSysDev4 жыл бұрын
I prefer to use Matt Black ( not glossy) spray paint which you get in spray cans. Matt black absorbs the laser and gives better results.Also instead of using tooth brush, you can use scotch brite , the results are much better after etching.

@@justin.campbell Correct, It can be any paint...I remember using a permanent marker to draw tracks in my engineering college days for PCB prototyping. So even laser was not required for wearing off marks. Of course this will work only for large through hole components where pitch and dimensions are not critical.

Have you tested the resolution/pitch limit for your process? Good to use it for SOP, SSOP and TQFP footprint?
@jackflash6377 Жыл бұрын
To get the best resolution (0.03mm or less) you need to use a lens for 100 x 100 mm and focus the hell out of the beam. You can get down to 0.01mm if everything is perfect.

What if you coated the entire board in resist and used the laser to burn off the resist then used the normal etching method? I was doing pads for 0604 SMDs and found that the laser was heating the copper too much so I dropped the power way down and just used multiple passes (10 to 20) to slowly erode the copper away without heating it so much. Worked great. Some other tips: Use a lens that gives a 100 x 100mm work size, learn how to focus your laser. I mean get it perfectly focused. Learn how to set the Start TC, End TC and other such settings. You'll need a powerful microscope to get it right. (google it to get the right procedure. it takes a bit of time to get it right but you'll thank yourself later because your squares will be square and your circles will be round and.. your edges will all connect to each other to form a "watertight" (3D printer jargon) square or circle. Plus it's pretty cool to see that your lines are just little dots (craters) very, very close to each other.

Hello friend, thanks for the video, but I have some questions, please: 1) You used the PCB Wizard to draw the tracks, then you saved them as a JPEG; Afterwards, you opened another program to write American Tech; (Was it the PS program, by any chance?) and saved it again as a JPEG? I got a little confused! 2) What settings did you use on the laser, like Power, Speed, etc? (I have a 10W laser). 3) How long did you leave the plaque in the Ferro Perchlorate? Sorry for so many questions and thank you very much.

As an example, I have a QFN-38 package from Analog Devices : LT8705. QFN-38-1EP-5x7mm-pitch0,5mm. Chip is rectangle and pads are rectangles all around the chip. 0.5mm is the distance betwen 2 pads axes. Pads width are 0.25 mm width and spaces between each pad is 0.2 mm. So each track should be 0.2 mm width : they should be smaller thant pads. So : i'm pretty sure your process can't reach that. With my TwoTree TTS-55 i could not : tracks are breaking during cleaning or etching steps. The only method that worked is classic printing transparencies and so on but printers give a lot problems if they are not specifics. So i afforded a laser and scale and linerarity are very good but under 0.35mm i can't expect a track will survive the process. Some pads do it even at 0.2 mm but there's always more than one breaking then i consider it not a reliable process.
