In this how to video you'll learn how to make your own photosynthetic bacteria (PSB) plant food. You'll also learn about the main reasons this is a great additive to your garden.
It's pretty simple really. All you need is a collection of bottles to make the plant food in. We reuse large drinking water bottles. You'll also need some eggs, fish sauce, msg, and a PSB starter.
All you need is:
Starter PSB
Raw egg
fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
Monosodium glutamate (MSG) - 1 tablespoon
Sunlight
Water
and some bottles to make it in.
You can also make PSB without the starter, if you don't have any and/or you are unable to purchase any, but the process is somewhat different. To learn how to make this PSB plant food without the starter, please watch this video (we have produced this second video about making PSB because we've had requests about how to make it from scratch.)

I love your bird. We don't feed wild birds because of the neighbors cats. We grow everything organically on our tiny farm and have been composting for thirty five years. I'll try this for sure.

Wow! Composting for 35 years! That's amazing. I've only just built some compost bins. I wish I'd done this sooner! We've been feeding the bird since before it had feathers. It's nest was abandoned, so we fed it and now it thinks my wife and I are it's parents. I'm going to make a video about her soon.

We mix in fish sauce and MSG (Monosodium glutamate - NOT salt). My wife tells me you can make it without the fish sauce, but it will take longer to mature before you can use it. Do not add salt! This will kill the bacteria.

Hello, What products should I look for online to be the starter? I see many products but don't know which might still have live microbes to propagate. I make garbage can size batches of pigeon manure tea for fertiliser with good results and sometimes it turns green if I leave it a long time, I presumed this was algae but maybe it is bacteria.

You can make it without using fish sauce, but it will take a longer time before you can use it. The color should turn deep red and it will smell horrible.

@@npm1421 I would hope the cops have real work to do rather than come after someone who is collecting a little water from a pond. You could collect rain water if you don't want to use mains water.

We've had no problem with it attracting flies. Before we use it the lids are always on the bottles and when we use it the PSB plant food is diluted so much you can't smell it.

Look at both's nutritional facts. I believe soy sauce isn't as complex as fish sauce. I believe soy sauce also A Lot more salt.

I read this online "The photosynthetic process in all plants and algae, as well as in specific types of bacteria, involves the reduction of carbon dioxide to carbohydrate and the removal of electrons from water, resulting in the release of oxygen. This process is known as oxygenic or aerobic photosynthesis." So I guess the PSB we make is aerobic. We never have to open the bottles until we use them, so there's no additional oxygen introduced during the photosynthesis.

@@jeffreybrenninkmeijer6800 We've had bottles that were not used for many months and the PSB was still good. We did not need to feed it or add anything. Turning bottles every so often to mix the PSB is good when keeping it for longer periods.

We have no water supply issues here. There's a canal at the top of our section and another that runs along our back boundary. These irrigate the rice fields and orchards. Some of the length of the canals are concrete, but much of the distance they are earth, so water seepage is normal and we never worry about 'wasting' a little now and then, but are generally careful. Good to know you appreciated the video content.
