I just made these! I do not have whole milk on hand. I used one cup evap milk and 1/4 cup oat milk (Oatly Full Fat) instead but it still turned out great! Thank you for sharing this recipe! Will be making it again!❤️

Making these right now!! I made them with leftover pie dough that I rolled into a log (forgot to add butter before rolling), I only had enough to make five so I split the custard recipe in half, it ended up being the perfect amount!

Heyy ...can I ask something? Why everytime I do this egg tart...it failed miserably...for example the tart burn black...the custard are still a liquid after 1 hour and I folded the tart dough just like you did but it doesn't have that crispness...please help ..I did everything following your step ..🥺😭😭

Hi Kittycat sorry to hear about your burnt egg tarts! I understand it is upsetting when it doesn't turn out the way you expect it to 😣. The tart might have burnt as it was too close to the heat, try placing the pan on the middle rack or one rack below the middle if you're already using the middle rack. If your oven has an option to choose 'fan bake' then I recommend you use that to make sure the custard actually cooks through. If it didn't turn out crispy, there are few possible reason for this, is it possible that you have added more water than needed? (Pls use 7tbsp and add 1/2 tbsp at a time if the dough is still dry). If you live in a hot country and the temperature in your kitchen is relatively warm, try leaving the pastry shells in the fridge before filling it in with the custard and make sure not to stretch the dough too much during rolling because you won't end up with a crispy shell. Actually 4:45 I think you explained it the tart part dries up to much when I bake it but I’m not over cooking the mixture into a pudding when whisking it I make sure it stays pretty much a liquid

Iv also tried to experiment with different temps, Iv tried really hot temps like 500°f for 10-15 min and and low temps like 300°f for 20-30min

Hello Justin thanks for watching 🤍 Egg tarts are tricky to make so I understand, it took me a lot of attempts to get it right 😅 To answer your question, if you don’t use heavy cream you won’t be able to achieve the burned top because the fat in that heavy cream is responsible for it and the filling consistency would be off as well. May i know if you have been using heavy cream when making them?

Bake in a preheated at 230 degrees Celsius. After 20 minutes, check if the pastry is browning too fast or the custard is overflowing. If it is, turn off the heat and let the remaining heat cook the egg tarts fully for 10 more minutes.
