I just made these! I do not have whole milk on hand. I used one cup evap milk and 1/4 cup oat milk (Oatly Full Fat) instead but it still turned out great! Thank you for sharing this recipe! Will be making it again!❤️

Making these right now!! I made them with leftover pie dough that I rolled into a log (forgot to add butter before rolling), I only had enough to make five so I split the custard recipe in half, it ended up being the perfect amount!

@ they turned out delicious!!! not nearly as flaky and lovely as yours since I forgot the butter but otherwise perfect! husband immediately claimed them as a favorite so I will definitely be making them again :)

You're very encouraging- your demonstration looks easier and so convincing. Since I'm on gluten free diet using gluten free flour and I will attempt to make this recipe and I will let you know if I'm successful although GF flour is not malleable as regular flour but will see. You made this looked so easy - I hope so, I'm going to try but I have warm hands if I mix this with my hand butter will melt fast. Do have any idea or any other ways to make the dough especially we're having summer weather season in LA until September/October. Thank you!

Thanks for this hun you made my day 💕🥰 I would recommend putting your mixing bowl in the fridge before using it. Also would recommend kneading in a toom with a cooler temp and work as fast as you can 😅💗

Yes the fat content is just lower for fresh cream but for the purpose of cream in this recipe it should be ok 😊

Heyy ...can I ask something? Why everytime I do this egg tart...it failed miserably...for example the tart burn black...the custard are still a liquid after 1 hour and I folded the tart dough just like you did but it doesn't have that crispness...please help ..I did everything following your step ..🥺😭😭

Hi Kittycat sorry to hear about your burnt egg tarts! I understand it is upsetting when it doesn't turn out the way you expect it to 😣. The tart might have burnt as it was too close to the heat, try placing the pan on the middle rack or one rack below the middle if you're already using the middle rack. If your oven has an option to choose 'fan bake' then I recommend you use that to make sure the custard actually cooks through. If it didn't turn out crispy, there are few possible reason for this, is it possible that you have added more water than needed? (Pls use 7tbsp and add 1/2 tbsp at a time if the dough is still dry). If you live in a hot country and the temperature in your kitchen is relatively warm, try leaving the pastry shells in the fridge before filling it in with the custard and make sure not to stretch the dough too much during rolling because you won't end up with a crispy shell. Hi Daisy thanks for trying it out ☺️ The temperature might be too high. Try turning off the temperature off when it starts to overflow and cook with the remaining heat. Let me know how it goes❤️

I used non stick and i greased it before placing the tarts so i pulled them out and they were intact 😊

@@lilacdiaries I always assumed people would just flip them upside down and knock on the tray and the egg tarts that isn't broken would be sold or shared with others while the broken and cracked egg tarts would either be thrown away or eaten by the baker that makes them

How does it come out of you don’t use heavy whipping cream? Sometimes when I make them the tart part looks like cooked flour with a little bit of milk lol I don’t know how to explain it, I’m trying to make it come out how they make them on Portugal 🇵🇹

Actually 4:45 I think you explained it the tart part dries up to much when I bake it but I’m not over cooking the mixture into a pudding when whisking it I make sure it stays pretty much a liquid

Iv also tried to experiment with different temps, Iv tried really hot temps like 500°f for 10-15 min and and low temps like 300°f for 20-30min

I also just noticed your recipe calls for 2 egg yolks and the other one Iv been using calls for 6 wonder if that’s the issue

Hello Justin thanks for watching 🤍 Egg tarts are tricky to make so I understand, it took me a lot of attempts to get it right 😅 To answer your question, if you don’t use heavy cream you won’t be able to achieve the burned top because the fat in that heavy cream is responsible for it and the filling consistency would be off as well. May i know if you have been using heavy cream when making them?

I have tried so many recipes and trial and error ideas and it still ends up more like a pudding even tho I’m not over cooking it when making the custard part on the stove top

Bake in a preheated at 230 degrees Celsius. After 20 minutes, check if the pastry is browning too fast or the custard is overflowing. If it is, turn off the heat and let the remaining heat cook the egg tarts fully for 10 more minutes.
