I think overall, it's ok if you want to have a fast overview of how to make a psy track, but in detail, it's very poor quality and just scratched the surface a little. A bass and kick is actually much harder to make.. in principle, it's done right... the "mistake" was that the kick and bass were colliding and canceled each other. Oscilloscope is often used to detect phase issues and get rid of them by tools. Some sounds weren't really mind-blowing and clean, but i liked the catchy chords in the intro. The arrangement and rhythms were pretty basic. And mixing, well, i don't know if there is any.. That sounds a little muddy. I think this track goes more in the direction of mainstage commercial psytrance(not my piece of cake since i like psytrance more as breaking rules, pushing boundaries, experience sound, experimenting with sound and evolving genre *psychedelic*). The quality and where to place these minimalistic sound effects are the most important stages of this style.. everything has to be as catchy as possible. Artists, of such style sitting hours just on every single sound to make them clean and fat (mostly layering and A/B). To produce actual top notch psytrance (also other genres but especially psytrance since is one of the hardest genres to make) will take for the most people years or decades. The first hard part is to nail the sound design (also like proper kick and bass)... to archive these crazy noises, but clean is a real art and will take some practice. The next hard thing is to make good rhythms so the sounds u created play well together (that will take the most work in the end, especially when you focusing more on experimental styles/subgenres of psy and have just little knowledge about rhythm theory). Then, write good arrangements with good play of tension and release..that are not always the same "progressive" scheme. Then, almost at the end, there is mixing.. It will be hard to mix, especially when you have hundreds of tracks and sounds in your project and that it should have good psychoacoustic effects. In the end, mastering.. this one is what the name says.. many artists (not just in psy) don't master by themselves. Sometimes, because they don't know how, have no ability, are saving time, lazy, or there are people who can do it better. Good psytrance is an art that is not easy to learn by yourself.. It's possible, but it will take a lot of time. Most people who want to produce it learn from other "experts." This genre has a huge amount of "hidden" tricks that are not easy to find out by just listening to the music and analyzing. I was producing a lot of genres in the past but never came across so many tricks and a wide range of techniques. If you (not necessarily the producer of the video) want to do this genre seriously, i recommend learning the theory of music and sound, analyzing a wide range of psy styles, taking good tutorials, go on forums, meet like minded persons, take courses and get a teacher.
@jedimindtrix21429 ай бұрын
That's actually some really, really...REALLY good advice man. I'm pretty damn musically talented man and Psytrance is absolutely an art all of it's own. There's soooo much that goes on under the surface to create the ups and downs, highs and lows and the rhythmic vibe of the genre. It's definitely something you need to be taught by someone who knows the ropes instead of flailing around trying to do it yourself and never getting that desired "it factor" sound.

have you ever heard psychedelic trance before?? Why would you call this even psychedelic and take this trash as reference.... Psy trance is a passion for many people, crap like this is polluting the psychedelic scene. There is no soul in it, absence of spirit, 0% psychedelic, there is no passion or artistic/creative work involved here... it is completely lacking in substance. Its like comparing the pictures my 7 year old nephew is drawing VS Claude Monet. I don't want to hate that much, but my nephew shouldn't publish a video "HOW TO PAINT A MONET" either, because he has absolutely no idea how to paint a Monet. He lacks competence. Maybe he'll be able to do it one day, but he's not yet in a position to teach others. Same applies here.... stay in your lane

Thanks for creating this video and for the broad strokes on how to arrange this genre. I'm a casual listener of Trance, psytrance, dark techno, and synthwave. Much bigger fan of Industrial (NIN, Stabbing Westward, Static X), hard rock, doom, stoner, and NWOBHMl. So this tutorial was a good overview for me of this genre. It was very helpful. Can't wait to dig into more of your content. So, I really liked the song you created for this. Thanks for sharing it with us.
