Thank you so much. I watched the video where you were laying out the beds earlier today and was wondering about the build. Just got back on KZbin and there was this video! Have been having a hard time deciding which style to use, this might very well be the one I use. Very good looking beds-good job. Keep up the good work.

Boards are on the inside for strength. The weight of the soil will push the boards off the other way.

I love these beds! When we get our forever homestead, I want some just like them. My husband does lawn care for a living and has been building raised beds for clients. It's so exciting to see all of these people who want to grow their own food. 😀

You're really going to enjoy these raised beds so close to the house! We used the wood from my Mom's dismantled deck to make ours (so...free!), and I love that I don't have to weed them. We also used the core gardening technique with sopping wet grass clippings from Luke at MIgardener and didn't have to water near as much. And you should see the worms! I love my raised garden beds!

After reviewing the material and build list for your boxes, as a "handyman" and "construction guy".... I have to say: "Well Done!" VERY nice plans and lots of value! Thanks! P.S. Great to see the kids getting bigger and having fun...

About the soil you buy being organic........ There was a huge fuel truck accident near us recently and they took all of the soil that was contaminated out. They are hauling it off to be burned and then they will bag it and sell it as topsoil in stores. Yes, like you said, organic soil is a must!

Thank you Justin!! Makes alot of sense to me. Those rough sawn are great aren't they? I used to get them a long time ago when I was working on my house before the flood of 93. I have a question about what some of the veggies are. Could you help?!?!.!? 1. Sunchokes cushaw spinach minutina and haskap. I've never heard of those. Now, I'm near St. Louis. I was a gardener up until I lost my hands so now I just watch others plant and enjoy the fruits of they're labor! I do go to the local farmers market and St. Louis's market. Lots of fun.

it faces in because then the weight of the soil pushes the boards onto their support instead of pushing them off and out. also your support boards will take longer to rot by not being in contact with the soil

Great looking beds. I get the intent of adding wood fiber to the bottom of the raised bed but wouldn't you be further ahead by using Wood Chips and even the Soiled Hay from the barn? Thanks for posting.

If you would have put the boards on the outside. It wouldn't have the braces to keep the boards from coming off. Do to the weight and pressure, of the soil on the Inside. Besides looks pimp, great job!

AWESOME
@reneebrown55985 жыл бұрын
The other reasoning is the bowing of the walls. If the stress loads are on the outside of the walls they will have blowouts on your walls If you put the boards to the outside. Better design.
@jfvan785 жыл бұрын
Looks great! One question. I've always heard not to mix in wood (chips) with your soil otherwise it will rob the soil of nitrogen during the decomposition cycle. I realize the wood is at the bottom of your beds, but I wonder if the deeper rooted plants will be starved of nitrogen. Any thoughts?
@theJustinRhodesShow5 жыл бұрын
We're putting manure on top of the wood. Then over a foot of soil. We've heard good things about his method, so we'll just have to see.

How do you plan to compensate for the nitrogen deficiency? When organic material breaks down it takes nitrogen from the surrounding area. Will you top dress with fertilizer to get the composting started?

Are you going to be capping those 4x4 posts with anything? Water is going to accumulate on top and soak in and rot them out. Also you will get water and dirt collecting on top of the bottom framing on the outside of the beds. Not what I would call long-lasting.

From a lifelong carpenter, builder, and construction manager ---- saying they've been designed is kinda laughable. I take time to allow the commercials on your page run, which is something not done for all. The pandering of details and offers of additional "members" areas from a very inefficient practitioner are very quickly growing old. Personally, I find the selling alienating to the point that I am typing this comment to let you know I consider my time taken to sit through a commercial to give you a profit share; is a gift not well appreciated at all.
@theJustinRhodesShow5 жыл бұрын
My deepest thanks for watching through the 30 seconds of commercials! Every bit helps. I'd added further value inside my products to help people in a deeper way. I've found that the majority of my customers are extremely happy and make BIG changes. Some customers are that just to express their gratitude for all the free content I provide. Again, thanks for giving back a little for the free content. Much appreciated.
