I make this drink at home. I did not know that it had a name. Too funny. I use Julio 70. That way I don't get a headache. It keeps me hydrated and keeps a good buzz going. I like that the ingredients are simple.

Saying you can’t find topo chico in Chicago is like saying you can’t find cheese in Wisconsin lol

Do most bartenders know how to make a Ranch water? Or is it easier to just ask for a “tequila with soda and lime” Also is it annoying to ask for a specific brand to make sure it’s 100% agave? I’m new to the tequila game and want to make sure I’m getting 100% agave instead of just asking for tequila and them giving me a low quality mixed tequila. For example I don’t want them to give me Jose Cuervo Especial. I prefer them give me Tradicional, or Hornitos Plata or something. But I don’t want to be that annoying guy haha

As long as you’re nice in the way you ask and tip well you should be more than fine to ask for anything! At the end of the day you’re the one who should enjoy the drink the way you like it. Instead of you want you can ask it as an alternative; as in “I typically don’t like Jose Cuervo but instead I love Hornitos Plata, if you can use that in my drink; that would be great!” Hope that helps!

Not that they wouldn't know how to make it, but that they may not have the Topo Chico that some people INSIST on. If you're ok with another kind of carbonated water, go for it. As far as checking out the tequila, I have no problem asking-- just be nice about it. Familiarize yourself with a few good brands so you can recognize them. At a minimum, insist on 100% agave. Cheers from Indiana!

Here is what I can tell you from my experience, before ordering you need to ask for their Tequilas, what are they offering and also what is their well Tequila or their workhorse tequila, then when they list you the brands (most bars wont carry a big variety at all) that’s when you ask for a drink to be made with that bottle. I would recommend you to omit any from Jose Cuervo whatsoever and if they have something like Espolon or Arette then you are lucky, Hornitos is good for cocktails as well.

I though it was called a Paloma? Guess the difference is Ranch water needs no mixing. Damn close

The paloma is usually made with squirt.

A Paloma is basically a Margarita made with grapefruit soda like Squirt or Jarritos.

No a paloma has grapefruit in there either with something like Squirt or grapefruit juice with soda water and simple syrup to make the Squirt.

I'm sorry, but Teremana (Dwayne Johnson's brand) is not good tequila by any means. If you're actually a bartender or know anything about tequila, you'd never buy that garbage. To anyone who isn't aware, stay away from any celebrity brands (including Casamigos, 818, Lobos, etc). They are all terrible and there are WAY better, quality options out there for the same price. I'd suggest Fortaleza, G4, Pasote, Terralta, Tapatio, Cascahuin, and Lalo. If you're on a budget, I'd recommend Olmeca Altos, Cimarron, Pueblo Viejo, and Espolòn.
