my grandma is danish america, she makes this every christmas. but she makes it with strawberry sauce. maybe you will like it more with strawberries. i think its just frozen or fresh strawberries and sugar cooked together. i love this dish, kinda reminds me of indian kheer or mexican rice pudding, just more almond tasting. i will have to try making it for the first time this year.

oh and we do.the gift thing 2, but since its usually 20 people or so we do more than one almond, and the game is rigged (grandma plates and there is assigned seating for dessert) so everyone wins at least once every few years. do any other danish people do this? and do you dance around the christmas tree? or sing a song new havi yule agen or something like that, idk the danish spelling

Sounds lovely! I make it with strawberry sauce during the summer (since I love the dessert I cannot wait for Christmas, haha). I also do an orangesirup with vanilla some times. Yes we do it all. Gifts, dance and singing (nu er det jul igen) :-D

My stepfather was a great cook and him being danish was a bonus. I loved danish puddings

Julia, your risalamande is totally unique to me. I had rice pudding once in my life, but I can see this is ten times better! Yours is so creamy! I can imagine how delicious it would be with homemade warm cherry sauce. This is not the season to be dieting! 😄

PeteJenson the name it self comes from “pseudo french”. The product itself is danish.

Risalamande is french for rice with almonds (although it is a danish dish, but historically danes are a bit wanna-be-french). Normally risalamande is made from a rice porridge with whole milk, often eaten the 23. december topped with cinnamon and butter. The leftovers are mixed with whipped cream, boiled and chopped almonds, almond extract and vanilla.

Vi har nu aldrig fået risengrød lillejuleaften og vi laver det altid fra bunden af, så vaniljen koges med. Så synes jeg, at det smager meget bedre! Men tak for kommentaren, så kan andre lige få lidt ekstra viden :-D 👌

+One Kitchen - A Thousand Ideas Det kommer an på ens landsdel, hvorfor jeg skriver "ofte". I Nordjylland er det meget typisk at spise risengrød d. 23. december - her laver man typisk en voldsom stor portion, så man kan bruge resterne til at lave risalamande med d. 24. Men ja når man koger vaniljestængerne sammen med mælken, så smager det mere af vanilje - men dette ville man alligevel kunne justere med en større mængde vaniljeudskrab.
