Here's a fun way to make baskets and bowls to use for many things and a great homemade gift or any occasion. You will learn how to join the rope, how to start and finish off and how to make handles!
Link to my how to make rope bowls playlist:
• HOW TO MAKE ROPE BOWLS
Rope that you can find on Amazon:
7/32" cotton clothesline 100 ft hank
amzn.to/2FVkrM0
1/4" cotton clothesline 100 ft hank
amzn.to/2TlZkpc
I used about 100' of rope to make the large bowl and a smaller bowl.
If you find a #8 rope. That is equivalent to 1/4".
Other supplies:
-sewing machine
-tape measure
-boards to make a larger flat bed if necessary
-scissors
-thread to match the color of the rope
-a few wrapped bobbins
-a crochet hook or a stiletto
-4 sewing pins
-tape
Optional: embroidery thread if you choose to cover your end piece with a decorative pattern

Never apologize for having an old reliable sewing machine without the bells and whistles. The best crafters always have that 1 machine they can count on. I'm glad to see you using it. I have the same straight/zigzag only Bernette I bought 25 years ago for $100. I love it. I can tear the whole thing down, clean it and put it all back together with no fuss about taking it to be serviced. I adore this machine! Stacking stuff up to extend your tray is just clever!

hey patti, just wanted to say thank you for all that you contribute to the sewing community. i started to teach myself to sew about a year and half ago, just basic stuff, mending, hemming, and few easy projects like potholders and pillowcases. i stopped for a little while and getting back into it, decided to that i wanted to make a tote bag from old curtains and futon slip cover, it came out pretty good. then i found out about using clothesline rope for tote bags / baskets. i found this video and i've made a couple of baskets, they're not the pretties, but i've learned so much from making them. working on another one, but gotta sleep. anyways, just wanted to send you some love and say thanks for sharing your knowledge in skills.

Nice work. I love your little mistake and turning it into a jewelry basket. ❤ I definitely learned a couple of things from you that I was doing a little bit wrong.I just started making bowls just a couple of weeks ago and almost called it quits because I bought the wrong cord, aka nylon and ended up hot gluing the whole thing. Nylon is very hard to work with. I got a word of encouragement from another lady doing a tutorial not to give up, got cotton cord and just practiced making coasters at first. I made a shallow bowl with the 3 cord handles and showed it to my 47 year old daughter and she loved it and wanted it. Now I’m working on my 3rd bowl. It’s going well. So, thank you for your great instructional video. You do beautiful and very neat work. ❤

@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts 3 жыл бұрын
That was sweet of your husband to bring you home some rope. I much prefer working with cotton. The polyester rope is definitely going to be more slippery to work with and harder on the sewing needles. But now that you have it you can always practice with it. The cotton rope gives a more natural look and feels good to the touch and will be much easier to work with.

I watched your video on a whim and tried it with what rope I had in the house. The rope is nylon and quite narrow. I absolutely love how easy it is to make a basket. I don't think it even took 45 minutes! 5 1/2" base and 9" at top. Handles aren't evenly spaced but I am absolutely thrilled with how easy it was. Great tutorial! Thank you!

Oh that’s great to hear Sandy. The nylon rope is a bit slippery to work with so you will have lots of fun working with the cotton rope as well.
