How to make Sculptamold at home without toilet paper!

I need a lot of Sculptamold/modelling compound for my board builds, but it quickly gets expensive. All of the homemade equivalents that I found involved loads of shredding, soaking and drying out toilet paper. I wanted something even easier.
I'm convinced that this is the easiest and cheapest way to make your own Sculptamold equivalent at home. There are just two materials, and it can cost less than £2 per kg.

I've had great success using egg carton card for DIY sculptamold. It shreds in a food blender without water cutting out all the faff. Just using the bottom half of the carton that doesn't have a paper label stuck to it, it doesn't take long to collect enough for a few kilos of plaster. And of course it's free household waste. I'd also suggest whatever substrate you use to mix the dry powders together thoroughly before adding water. That way the plaster powder coats and impregnates the cellulose thoroughly so that when it's hydrated it's all one gloopy mass rather than being runny plaster with bits of fibre in it. The bagged wood pulp looks a better option if you have a huge area to cover right now but for a modest project or if you've time to collect cartons ib advance, I'd definitely recommend the egg cartons.

That's a great tip. I need to start collecting some cartons now! I've not tried this pulp in the blender yet, but I think it should break up nicely. It's on my to-do list.

The only problem is that I don't know anybody who reads a newspaper anymore, and they are ridiculously expensive! I'm going to try shredded paper next, I think.
