Nice box, and nice detail to router the edge of the endpieces, so you can hide the cloth in there. But I think it would look even better, if you had countersunk the sub, so it is flush with the surface :) and maybe tighter seal around the lip.

Hi, i would like to fit a kenwood KFC-PS3016W subwoofer (12 inch) into a small ported box and then into a hatchback... how much would i lose by severely undersizing the box? Would it end up sounding horrible? 1st time attempting to build a box, always had pre-fab boxes. Thank you.

Hello, undersizing the box actually maximizes the output but also heightens the tuning . That is what most SPL guys doing: Undersize the box OR oversize the port to achieve higher tunings (around 45-55Hz tunings) but very loud.

Very nice your boxes always turn out great! what program are you using for box designs? I use a program called Cutlist Optimizer to lay out all my cuts on a 4×8 sheet it is awesome i hardly have any wasted wood.

Thanks for the feedback. The polyfiber fill will make the box "bigger" to the subwoofer so low frequencies will be produced lower than the initial box tuning.

I wouldn't reccomend polyphil if you have a high end sub, they tend to heat the coils by a lot, I added some to my box (sealed) and it sounded pretty good but my sub was way hotter than without the phil

@@LexiconDevil This sub is not high end. It's low end. Has 47Hz Fs and a QTS of over 1.15. So must fill something to lower the overall tuning a bit.

@@chrclmnky I know that sub, one of my favorite lower end ones, I personally have the diamond audio hxp124, and I was curious to see if polyphil would help it, but it got so hot to the point where the dust cap is untouchable, so I had to remove it in order to get it running again, take note that I only got like 2 layers of it around the walls of the box so it wasnt that much

If mdf is same cost as birch, then go for the birch. Mdf here in the Philippines is very cheap by the way while high grade plywood are a luxury. Get a straight edge and use it as guide against the jigsaw. You might want to screw down halfway that wooden straight edge guide.

Glue and pin nails are good for boxes with subwoofers having a power up to 1000w RMS. More than that should be of some industrial strength materials.

Hello GV, that was polyfiber fill used to stuff pillows and teddy bears. It is used to trick the subwoofer to make the box bigger, therefore lowering the resonance frequency.
