Greetings, friends. Today, I visited my local wine/brew shop. Sadly, they are going out of business. Happy news is that I picked up the gear I need to start my wine making journey at a discount. I also bought a jug of vintners mango juice and a cans of black currant and sweet cherry puree at even a deeper discount. The manager told me to come back next week and he will sell me some kits, bottles, and whatever is left over at blowout prices. Your channel was a big inspiration to pick up this hobby. My friends will thank you 😀

@@HowToDoneRight the manager said the retail equipment section was only busy at harvest time and slow the rest of the year. They have a winery in the back.. I saw thousands of gallons of wine in huge containers. Seven hours after my visit my nose is still full of the smell of wine :)

@@HowToDoneRight Today I took a 40 minute ride to a place called Label Peelers. Very cool people. I picked up a 2 gallon bucket with a lid, Starsan, Easy Clean, and some Bentonite. I am ready to get my first batch going. I decided to try the black currant puree. I also placed an order with them for 6 gallons of Chilean Shyrah juice.. that should arrive mid April. We are going to make some wine! Woo-hoo! 😀

Skeeter pee is one I’ve yet to make. The simplest version doesn’t include tannins or zest. This made me suspect it would be quite one dimensional. I like your recipe. As soon as my back heals enough to be allowed to handle my buckets and fermenters, this one might very well be top of my list of recipes to make!

Hello and thanks for all the info you share. My wife and I are new to wine making, our first batch is your apple caramel wine which is fermenting now and smells great!!! Exciting!!! Hey I love your videos, I’m not new to wine making, however your style has helped me correct some issues I have had in the past. My question is, I have always used spring water in my wine and have always been scolded for using tap water, are you using city tap water or are you on a filtration system. Thanks!

Tap water is completely fine... a good wine needs the minerals in Tap water but spring water if you do not have a good water quality is good too... you do not want to use ro water or filtered water. Great question. 👍👍

Hi! I am making the Skeeter Pee wine. I followed your directions to the “T” and it is the day and the air lock is not bubbling and the bucket of liquid doesn’t have any bubbles. What can I do? The bucket contains the fruit of the lemons and some of the zest. I sanitized all my equipment. The only thing I wasn’t sure of was the amount of sugar (simple syrup) I added. I don’t have a food scale so I looked up the conversion of sugar and added 2 cups of sugar per pound. I am a making 3 gallons of skeeter pee wine. Any suggestions? Hope I can save this 3 gallon skeeter pee wine. Thanks!

Your sugar should be fine. Lemon wine is hard to get going sometimes. It took me a week but don't give up... watch this video on stuck fermentation and will give you some things to try. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqG9oaOnfqaLpNE Also check with hydrometer it could be fermenting very slowly but fermenting. That's a good thing.

The skeeter pee or lemon wine can just be made with ĵuice.

This would be great carbonated. Also adding some strawberrys. I really love those fresh strawberry Lemmon drinks they sell at the fairs. This would be a great cider at 6%. Thus is a great recipe, there's just so many things you can do with it.

Hey guys! It’s me again. I started my skeeter pee on 10/3 and used your recipe for the 1 gallon batch only I have Lavin EC-118 yeast. I don’t have the number measurement on me when it started. I have it at work. But it read about 11-12%. It have been 7 days and I never had any foam when I stirred. The bubbler did not go crazy but had a bubble every few seconds. It mostly looked like a carbonated beverage when stirring. Now even with having zero foam it is sending up a bubble every 12 seconds and the reading it at 1.000. Is it done and needs to be racked the secondary or did I mess it up???? Please any advice?

I had trouble with mine fermenting as well. I got a pH meter to test the pH (The pH strips have such a large margin of error that they are basically worthless), and my pH was like 2.7. I added calcium carbonate to increase the pH to 3.2, then pitched a new packet of yeast. It started fermenting right away

Gold would be more for bread. Never used it for wine but sure it would work with maybe a different flavor.

It is day 4 and no fermenting activity. I am making my 3 gallons of skeeter pee in a 6.5 fermenting bucket. Do you think the bucket is too large, adding too much air to the mixture? I will continue to monitor and stir for the next two days. Thanks!

The bucket should not be the issue. Is your yeast good? Did you check abv to see if it's changed from initial reading ? It could be fermenting and because there is lots of headspace you may not know it.

I would definitely get some red star yeast. I have links in the description or go to a local supply store. That could be old and it also should be refrigerated for longer life.

I bought lemon juice with "less than 2% of sodium bentonite & sodium bisulfite" did I screw up or will this work? I realize I'd need to go by the juice video recipe but I wondered about those 2 ingredients.

The sulfites most likely will kill your yeast. But if it works let me know.

@@HowToDoneRight hey! It DID ferment. I added yeast from the batch I did right before this and some extra yeast nutrient. Then I waited a few days and it looked like it fizzled out. Then I made a fresh slurry of a little apple juice, some sugar and yeast nutrient. When it got all bubbly I went to add it only to find that fermentation had kicked back up. I'll give it another week and check the gravity. Next time I'll be taking the yeast from the previous batch, making a slurry with it and adding that 1st off with some yeast nutrient every 2 days or so a few times to keep it alive.

Enjoyable video, but I gotta ask: lemons are full of citric acid. What is the reason for adding acid blend before you taste the finished skeeter pee. Are the lemons you bought not sufficiently acidic for your taste? And sure , acid blend contains citric acid but also malic (the acid found in apples) and tartaric (the acid found in grapes). Don't you need to be careful not to create a must where the pH falls below 3.0 - and lemon juice is likely to have a pH of about 3.2.

Technically you don't have to add acid blend your right. But it will balance your acids that are in your lemons also...... so I always do it and never had a bad batch of skeeter pee yet.

@@HowToDoneRight To me , adding acid before you check the TA is a lot like folk who add salt before they taste anything when they receive a plate of food. Adding acid ain't a ritual. It's to increase TA if and when the TA is too low (less than 6g/L). ;-)
