How To Make SNARK TUNERS 100% Headstock Safe

Are you, like me, tired of seeing the destruction to sensitive lacquer finished headstocks at the hands of your SNARK TUNER? Join me in remedying this problem forever, with two simple things.
Also I got a new camera and added more lighting.
I'm now using a Lumix G95 and Rode "RodeLink FM Digital Wireless Filmmaker System" lapel mic for sound. I think this is a HUGE improvement.

Why not just glue felt where the rubber normally is on the clip

As long as it's thin and doesn't hinder the passing of the vibrations. This would be worse on electrics etc, being less naturally vibratory instruments than acoustics.. So they have fewer vibrations to pass along by inherent nature of their construction. I.e. the solid body just not producing the vibrations an acoustic is designed for.

Thank you. Glad someone has found a solution. These guitars are expensive. Why ruin the headstock with a lousy $20.00 tuner? You'd think the company's that make these tuners would have figured this out.

You should post this in the Amazon reviews. The main complaint of "cause of death" of Snark tuners is one of the three plastic fingers that holds the ball joints breaking. At that point, the tuner is declared "useless". This resurrects a lot of Snarks.

I still have trouble understanding why you can't just slip some thin fabric, such as a bandana, between the snark clamp and the nitro headstock and just go to town.

I've been using Snark, and Snark-style tuners for about five years and I've never noticed any headstock damage from the little rubber jaws. That said, the magnet trick is nice. Some cheap, Chinese, Snark-style tuners have a weird mounting clip that doesn't let you align the tuner correctly to your eyes, where a magnet would make them perfect. What does most of the damage to my headstocks is the rubber hooks from where they hang in my office.

Is it just the snarks doing it or all of them because they put some kind of Kung-Fu grip of death on the headstock? I plan on getting a TimbreGear over a Snark though the Snarks are cheaper. I just wished all of them would use a regular AA or AAA battery over a CR2032.button cell.

That is only because , on this guitar, it is attached to a rounded back tuner. If the tuner was flat, on the back, it would hold very well.

I know to some folks this seems like a great idea. To me though I just lost four minutes and 44 seconds of my life because I could care less if I scratched the headstock on any of my guitars. I play guitars and they get scratched. I have a classical with a hole in it that looks like Willie Nelson might have owned it. Besides, I keep a snark on each one of my guitars and I just checked and all of them look fine. I can't see where it was ever a scratch on any of them.

I gotta be honest .. no. But, to each his own. Some people swear cleaning fretboards with naphtha or zippo fluid is okay. 🤦‍♂️ It looks like your tuner was bumped around WHILE clamped. Those marks looks smudged or smeared, as if the snark moved. Perhaps the rubber was dusty or gritty. Maybe certain finishes just don't get down with vulcanized rubber.

One might wonder why the headstocks are finished in nitro. One never sees nice worn headstocks.

I have about 5 different tuners I've had since the 70s and they all give different readings. Some are off by 50 cents or more. Nothing beats tuning by ear which is how I've been doing it since the 70s. Learn to tune by ear and save your money for strings.

Yeah, electronic tuners used to be crap unless you spent a few hundred dollars for a big box on your desk. But now you can get cheap Chinese tuners for free with a Ukulele starter kit that outperform certain name brand tuners. Really, the Chinese seem to have a reference design chromatic tuner IC chip that is better than anything BOSS makes, with regard to agreement with professional shop tuners. Tuner apps on cell phones are free. What you need is something that quickly give you a visual indication of which way you need to go and when to stop. Because ears aren't really that good when it's far out of tune. Everybody has broken a (brand new!) string tuning up from scratch.

Pedal tuner needs a cord. With the Snark tuner, you can tune up ANYWHERE. No cord needed, although I agree with you. The Boss pedal tuner is great when onstage.

sorry bout that premature post... i give this one minute before it cmes flying off goes into audience and takes some ones teeth out. Woodeso i watch a lot of your videos and love em. i ve watched you refinish Gibson guitars like a champion. this however is puzzling for you. I dont understand this dollar store trickery. i mean why buy a $2000.00 guitar and put a piece of crap $5.00 tuner on it really and then complain it sucks. If all of you can relate to Snark sucking in any way why continue to use it.. Get a real Tuner..... Polytune!!!! Dont ever put a snark tuner on a guitar again, no clip, no magnet, no glue. Why would you use a snark in a live situation? Not just that, why would you keep it on your guitar while you're playing? They're fucking ugly as shit, take it off and set it on your amp when you're not tuning but really, just buy a tuner pedal.
