You can try making soap dough with a small batch of your own recipe. Make it as you normally do and then cover it with plastic wrap and follow the same steps of kneading it a day or two later. I hope this helps, good luck!

High oleic canola?
@PinkDahliaCrafts5 жыл бұрын
You can use either. I use organic canola oil - I think the difference is (for soap making at least) the high oleic is more shelf stable, it doesn't go rancid as quick as regular canola. I've never had a problem with rancidity though.

It only needs to cure after you have shaped it into the shape you want. To keep it soft and pliable for a few months, wrap it tightly in plastic and store in a plastic ziplock bag.

Great video, can't wait to try it, think I'll start with 1lb. What lye concentration are you using? Also, do you not use sodium lactate because it could cause the soap to be too hard and not as moldable?
@PinkDahliaCrafts4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Honestly, I always run my recipe through Brambleberry's lye calculator so I am not sure what the lye concentration is. I choose solid soap, percentage, put in the total amount of oil I think I am going to use and enter the percentages per each oil; from there I adjust the amount accordingly and the lye-water amounts adjust automatically. Correct, I do not use sodium lactate when I am making soap dough because it will harden the soap. Take care!
@catherinepommier40785 жыл бұрын
Hi what oil can replace the Palm? Thanks for your answer
@PinkDahliaCrafts5 жыл бұрын
Hello - the only thing that I know of that can replace the properties of palm oil is tallow or lard, both of which I have never worked with. If you sub any oils run it through a lye calculator to make sure you are using the proper amount of lye/water.
@teriseverson11705 жыл бұрын
I want to try this!! I put the recipe in Brambleberry's calculator and it keeps defaulting to a 1% superfat. The water and lye come out differently than your printout. I don't see where it gives me the option to input a 10% water discount. Can you advise? Thank you so much for the tutorial!!!!!
@PinkDahliaCrafts5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure why their calculator is defaulting to 1% when you choose 0%, but I think a 1% superfat will be ok. The water discount I did on my own. Just take the amount of water and multiply it by 90% or 0.9 and this will give you the amount of water with a 10% discount. Ex: 3.5 oz water X 0.9 = 3.15 oz The water discount is optional though, I just do it so the soap cures a little faster :) Good luck!

Ah, I always just use the lye calc on bramble 😅 I'm glad you got to make some dough!!!
@micahthomas9521 Жыл бұрын
Bramble Berry's lye calculator will give you the lye amount and then give you a total of lye and liquid ( water, milk, beer ect ) amount. Just subtract your lye amount from the combined two amount and you have your distilled water amount.

Can they be stored in reusable containers, like Tupperware, in order to save on single use plastics like cling film?
@PinkDahliaCrafts4 жыл бұрын
I've never tried it, but I'm sure if you place the soap in a container that just fits the amount of soap it should work. I hope that makes sense - if you have 4 oz of soap dough, I do not think a 1 cup container would be air tight enough.

You forgot to mention the things you put in the gups before the coloring. What was that? Was it lie?
@PinkDahliaCrafts5 жыл бұрын
At 1:50 I mention that while the lye water solution is cooling I disperse the mica colorants (the colors in the cups) with the oils I measured out to make the soap, this makes mixing the colors into the soap batter much easier.
