The Arrow points to the end where the return wire and shield are soldered together (the other end of the shield floats). No, the arrow doesn't indicate signal flow. All arrows then point to the PreAmp or Integhrated/Receiver. Yes, even between Amp and PreAmp. This configuration constitutes a "Star Ground " with the Mains Ground at the Preamp. Popularized by Bruce Brisson of MIT Cables (also adopted by Monster) back in the '80s.

It's confusing different ways to do it one did it with the 2 colours twisted together and soldered to the pin and the bare wire slodered to the back part, which is good way for unbalanced RCA for pre amp?

It's possible to make RCA 3->2 connection with Wireworld luna 7 wire? Luna has L and R wire separated in two separate insulation. Each channel has two wire strands, ground (earth - black) and signal (blue (L) or white (R) chanbel). I want make RCA cord to connect my CD with Amplifier. Which ends Should I connect to CD (with 2 or 3 wire). Great movie!!! Regards

So the first end of the cable has 3 wires: 2 silver + copper wire. In second end the cable has 2 wires? Can someone explain this?
@kenwebster5053

The 1st cable is professional microphone cable. It is primarily designed for use with gear that supports balanced or multi point connections using mono TRS or XLR connectors. In PA applications, cable shielding is not sufficient to adequately reject EM induced noise on the very long cable runs. In this system, the outer braided shield carries most of the EM induced noise to earth preventing most of it from entering the 2 signal conductors. One of the these 2 cores carries in phase signal and the other carries inverted phase signal. So the 2 signals are in opposite phase and would cancel each other to zero if connected together. However, any induced noise entering the cores would be in phase and of the same strength on both cores. At the input of connected equipment, the inverse signal core is phase inverted again. Now both signals are in phase but the induced noise on each line is opposite phase to each other. This means that when the 2 lines are connected together, the signal s are added in strength but the induced noise is cancelled as they were in opposite phase to each other. like +1 -1 = 0 or +.5 -.5 = 0. This allows very clean, high fidelity analogue signal to be carried over very long cable runs while on the unbalanced or single point gear, typically HiFi using RCA connectors, 3-5m signal cable is regarded as the limit of clean signal. Having said this, the practical acceptable length of unbalanced cable largely depends on the strength of EM induction in proximity to the cabling. You sound never run signal cables parallel with either power of speaker cabling for example. Other sources of EM are radio, WiFi, fluorescent lighting electric motors....... Curiously, the 2nd cable appears to just have 2 cores and no shield, I would not regard such cable as suitable for HiFi RCA connectors because it would not reject EM induction. Normally, I'd use either a shield with single core or shield(s) with 2 cores. IMO, the best balanced cable has a separate braided shield for each core which helps prevent cross talk induction between the signal lines. I hope that helps.

@@kenwebster5053 Hey Ken, that's for this amazing reply!! Man, that's a lot of work. Thanks. It is even more curious, What I meant by second cable, is actually the same cable. Doesn't he do the first end, (I wrote first cable) and then flip it over and start on the other end (I wrote second cable). So on side of the SAME cable it appears to just have 2 cores and no shield. That's why I wrote my question. I was/am confused.

@@rmmr8513 Oh ok, I missed that but see what he is doing now. Normally with RCA, you would just have a shield and single core but what you describe is actually quite cleaver I and I missed it. The shield in unbalanced connection is used not only to deal with induced noise but it is also the signal reference voltage. Often people call this zero volts but that isn't true in an absolute sense. It isn't actually zero. It's just that the signal voltage is like AC except it varies in amplitude and frequency and waveform according to the sound waves it represents. This signal voltage varies + & - around the reference voltage. For this reason, the reference is considered zero relative to the signal. So now, you may see that it is important that the reference voltage be as stable and constant as possible. What happens if the shield has induced noise is the reference may not be quite so stable especially if the noise is significantly impeded from grounding. So what he is doing is grounding the shield at one end only. He has trimmed the shied at the other end so that it does not connect the induced noise directly to equipment at that end. This explains what I questioned in that one of the cores is connected to the shield at one end only, leaving the other end as a more stable shielded signal reference for the connected equipment. So the strategy here is to reduce the signal reference noise for the connected equipment as the 1st end has the induced noise grounded. Cleaver no? It is actually similar to a work around connection used in PA for connecting unbalanced sources to a balanced devices where the right equipment is not available. This also explains the arrows as they indicate which end has the grounded shield. At this time, I believe this should plugged in to ground the noise to the same single grounding point, usually an amp. However be aware that some amps are not grounded. In Australia, Yamaha commonly do not ground their amps presumably to reduce the likely hood of ground loop hum. So I think I need to look into this a little more to fully understand all cases. So thanks for that, it has made me think it through better. Ken

The shield of the cable is only connected to one end of the conductor,in his case it was the conductor with the clear coating,the other end you just trim the shield flush with the cable jacket,but making sure none of the shield you trimmed flush makes contact with the terminal,and so the end that has the shield and conductor solded together and attached to the terminal becomes the end you plug into your source.
