Ingenious! Would sterling silver for the main bangle work as well?
@artistjefffulkerson43272 жыл бұрын
Yes! I call the main bracelet the bangle and the small ones spinners. I've made both out of sterling, copper and brass, although the brass is hard to bend for the bangle.

Hi Jeff! I see you used 24g, isn't it a bit thin? What would be the thickest you would suggest that we can use with this tool? Thanks!
@artistjefffulkerson43273 жыл бұрын
24 gauge works well because it's easier to form & once you put in the compound curve, even the copper becomes incredibly strong g.
@johnmimist3 жыл бұрын
Artist Jeff Fulkerson hi Jeff, but as far as if someone wants a thicker look, how thick can the metal be with your tool?

That tool is genius! Great video and demo, too.

Thank you . Glad you like it!
@wendyannh4 жыл бұрын
Artist Jeff Fulkerson Can you crank it down more to create a bigger flange on the bangle? Or will it tend to split the metal quickly? That can actually be a desirable effect, when done intentionally - and is something I do actually want to do. I can’t afford the giant dapping tools to do it with, though, nor do I have the strength, plus I live in an apartment, so noise is a huge issue. I assume you can also use the tool to make rings, obviously as long as they are bigger than the bolt?
@artistjefffulkerson43274 жыл бұрын
@@wendyannh You can't use the disks to make rings as they are too big. You can crank down the disks until they touch each other. How much flare you get will depend on how wide and how large a bangle you make. typically, the metal only splits at the solder joint and its pretty uncontrollable.
@wendyannh4 жыл бұрын
Artist Jeff Fulkerson Thanks for the info! Any chance you will come out with a similar setup for rings? I should be more able to do those with dapping punches, but the noise would still be an issue. I’m always looking for ways around that!

I bought this 2 years ago and haven't gotten a chance to use it yet... I finally bought a copper spinner bracelet (made with it) from another jeweller in my area 😂. She has a rolling mill so had a cool texture on hers, that I won't be able to get when I finally start making these.

Question. I understand that annealing before squishing is required. Will the bangle start to work harden when you polish before squishing?
@artistjefffulkerson43279 ай бұрын
Polishing shouldn't work-harden the metal at all.

This tool looks great! Can you use copper solder, or do you need to use silver solder? (My copper solder seems strong but brittle.)
@artistjefffulkerson43276 жыл бұрын
I don't like copper solder because it's brittle, expensive and it isn't really copper in color. For copper bangles, I use medium silver solder. You can either leave the tiny silver line or plate the copper in old pickle.

Hi Jeff! I bought this tool from Halstead a few weeks ago but I somehow managed to get it stuck, and not can’t get the nut to move. Any advice you can offer? Thanks!!
@artistjefffulkerson43275 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you might have stripped the bolt/nut threads. First, to un-stick, you hopefully take a big wrench and a lot of elbow grease and loosen it. Second, if you can't do that, you may have to cut the bolt off. I had a student do this in a class once and all I could do was cut it off. The REAL question is why? Why did this happen. Two theories: You may have worn out the bolt and used it one too many times or you may have tightened it all the way down to where the two disks hit each other and kept trying to tighten to get a little more bend in your bangle. The first problem is easy: when the bolt starts to throw off little bits of metal, buy a new one. They're only about $1. The second problem just takes a little 'feel'. You should never have to exert tremendous pressure turning the nut. When it gets tight, that tells you that's as far as you can go, so stop! Hope this helps. Let me know.

OMG... Genius!! I have to get one and add spinner bracelets to my repertoire I love making spinner rings & have designed something like that "In My Head" for simplifying the bends in one process. I originally got the idea 2 yrs ago while at a boating surplus store and noticed the shape of the thermo plasticized rubber rollers, used with anchor winches. Obviously too big but your concept of 2 parts with rod in center is exactly what my idea was. Who does one go to about getting a design fabricated?
@artistjefffulkerson43276 жыл бұрын
When you say "get a design fabricated" do you mean a tool or the spinner bangles?
