It's surprising if you train employees the right way the first time, they remember it and they stick to it. If your standards and expectations keep changing, your employees will just do what they think is best. SOPs provide both YOU and your staff the discipline to stay consistent with how things are done! When you have your SOP about “How to take orders from customers when the computer is down”, then you do not have to react to that situation and hurry up and instruct all the employees on what they should be doing, you just say, “go read the SOP”.

Hello! Very nice video. Just few questions: 1. How do we give an SOP number for a document for IT department. Will it be something like IT-001? 2. And should we always include version history at the end or can it be added in the first? 3. In the procedure section, any tips for crisp explanation of all the cases. Would be really grateful if you could respond to these queries. Also, if you could share a free template/sample for this. Would be very helpful!!

Thanks, Kriti: 1: Numbering format depends on you/your organization: You can number as company name-department name-document number (xxx-xxx-01) 2: Version history is for better document control for auditing purpose. It's upto you where you want to put it. I would keep it at the end. 3: SOP should be in directional language, not passive sentence. Also, SOP should be reviewed by the person who actually does it.
