Nice tutorial. I would like to suggest Inkscape (free, open-source). I'm using it for all sort of work, and - while it's primary a vector imaging tool - it also can handle raster images.

Agreed. In future I have planned to make a tutorial for the same in Inkscape too. I also use Inkscape regularly. In fact you will find some tutorials using Inkscape on my channel, especially for creating layered templates.

Can you also use black paper for this or does it have to be white?

White paper is best medium for this kind of craft. If we use any coloured paper whether it is black, yellow, pastel colours etc. it will interact with the color of light at the back and produce a different color effect than intended. In case of black, it will absorb all light and very little of that light will come through the layers at the front. It will give kind of gothic and dark effect. With thin papers it might be possible to use black but then the craft will not hold its structure. I hope this answers your question.

Thicker card stock or black paper can be used but lights need to be included in each layer. Copper fairy lights probably the easiest. I just finished one by cutting, soldering, wiring LED lights. Doing so allowed me put different colors where I wanted also.

you might be using old powerpoint application. Also the powerpoint application for Mac does not contain that option I believe. In newer versions of powerpoint, 2013 and later, you will find that option under the "Shape Format" contextual menu. this menu will appear in the top ribbon only when you have one or more shapes selected.

You are asking about overall output of layers or any particular sets of layers? The light difference automatically gets created when the light has to pass different number of paper layers. The higher the count the darker the effect. The lower the count the lighter the effect

@@vietnamcrafts5645 it happens automatically. The light is placed at the very back. When you light it up, the more number of layers the light has to pass through, the darker that area appears on the front and vice Verda. Hope this answers your question

For a lot of things yes. Because it comes shipped with any windows laptop. Plus very easy to use for basic picture operations. I do use other softwares also like inkscape, illustrator, photoshop etc. The idea is to provide a mechanism which a lot of people can easily follow. A lot of new artists who do not have any experience of photo editing by softwares do get intimidated by these softwares. Just providing a less known easy alternative
