Yep, I can second that, I am from the Baltimore area and we use Old Bay in our Bloody Mary's. In fact in my family we have been using Clamato since at least the 1980's. My father taught me how to make this cocktail for him during football games on Sundays. I was only 12 or so and could not have one with vodka, but I appreciated the virgin variety.

I visited Edmonton, Alberta recently from Chicago and when I ordered a Bloody Mary I got offered a Caesar instead, very very similar and honestly was damn good. Found out the main difference was Clamato juice instead of straight tomato. Hispanics here in the states use Clamato to make micheladas with beer, another good drink lol

As a young man in the tomato business (I was 19 in 1988) my father sent me to visit our major supplier in San Quintin , Baja California Norte, Mex.. The San Quintin Bay is well known for it clear, cold Pacific Ocean water that produces excellent clams and oysters. To start one of our luncheons at a restaurant on the bay, we were served a version of the Caesar. This one happened to feature finely chopped fresh clams from the local beaches. More than 30 years later I can still remember how delicious that cocktail was! I enjoyed your video and learned some things too....thanks!

I've tried gin and I like it but, I've never tried moonshine in a Caesar. It sounds intriguing. Is it fortified Moonshine? Recently, I was gifted a couple bottles but they're only 40%.
@stephane.foisy.1866 жыл бұрын
BarTalk&Cocktails just the 40% moonshine. Basically in my area many local distilleries are selling young whisky as moonshine since if it is not aged a minimum of 3 years they cannot call it whisky. Some moonshine are unaged(clear) some are aged months in a cask. They are a bright and sharp sip with no oak but the spice of the grain comes through as it does in whisky. Real lovely with a rye based moonshine. As the spicyness enhances the drink well and cuts through the tomato.

I’m willing to bet I’ve made over a thousand Bloody Mary’s (okay, Bloody Caesars) over the last 18 years or so. I’ve made so many that a friend watched me make one and then asked me to write down what I put in it. I told him there is probably no way you are going to have all of the ingredients, sometimes I don’t, but I wrote it down from memory (which was actually quick and easy as I make 6-8 of these a month). Here it is: 16 ounce glass - fill a third with ice and put enough vodka in to cover ice (4 ounces or so) Fill remaining with Clamato to a half inch from top of glass Fridge ingredients: Sauces (a dash or two of each): A1 thick & hearty sauce, Worcestershire sauce, wine & pepper Worcestershire sauce, coarse horseradish, tabasco, sriracha sauce, tiger sauce (spicy Asian sauce) Juices (a dash or two of each): Garlic pickle juice, spicy green bean juice, hot pickled asparagus juice, green olive juice Dry spices (a shake/pinch or two of each): Roasted red bell pepper, grated pepper, minced garlic, toasted minced onion, old bay seasoning, Montreal steak seasoning, weber roasted garlic and herb Stir lightly and then add: 3 green olives, 1 spicy asparagus spear, 1 pickled mini corn, 3 shrimp cocktail Also, sometimes if I have it: piece of crispy bacon and some red onion shavings You may need to take a sip or two to make room for the end ingredients to fit Yes, this is a sodium bomb, but the average Bloody Mary mix contains a hefty amount of salt per 4 ounce serving. I don’t go overboard with any one ingredient, just small amounts of each listed and never measure anything. I don’t do the fancy skewering of my shrimp, olives, etc. I just drop them in at the end and let the drink sit in the fridge for 10 minutes or so to let it meld (and then use a fork to poke and eat the goodies). I originally began making these to keep my girlfriend from complaining she was hungry because it always took me too long to grill. It shortly became a “thing” and now I make them every time I grill steak.

Walter's though, can be purchased online and sent to the United States. I used to drink Bloody Mary's because I don't like the taste of seafood. But whenever I ordered a Bloody Mary, I always got a Ceasar. I got sick and tired of sending them back and eventually loved them. The spicier the better. But when they started adding all those difference garnishes, yikes!!!! Just give me the drink, please!!! I only use Walter's Ceasar mix now (thank God they came out with this) and just add salt, pepper and lime. Fabulous!!! I will say, though, when I was in New Orleans, they make a bloody great Bloody Mary!!!! Great video, everyone!!! Hail Ceasar!!!!!

You lost me at "just one drop" of Tobasco. It's about 4 dashes too short! Oh well, different strokes for different folks. Hey, if you wanna elevate your Caesars to another level, try adding some bacon flavoured hot sauce! You can get it at Superstore; President's Choice makes it. And you can certainly be more liberal with it than "just one drop" as it's not very hot- maybe around the same level as Frank's Red Hot. Ever since trying it, I just have to add bacon hot sauce to all my Caesars, because it's so damn good! It really is an improvement on something you thought was perfected already. It's almost like a cold Manhattan-style clam chowder that you don't have to chew. Oh, and did I mention I like bacon hot sauce in my Caesars?

How is a basic bloody Mary different than a basic Caesar?
@BarTalkCocktails5 жыл бұрын
The real difference is tomato juice (Mary) versus clamato juice (a combination of clam and tomato juice mixed together - Caesar). The other differences are more subtle. Things like the rim of the glass. Coarse salt versus celery salt or a mixed blend of spices. Lemon versus lime. You get the picture. Those differences are subjective and really are a personal preference. Taste-wise, I find a Caesar much lighter and not quite as thick as a Mary. Cheers!
@johng57105 жыл бұрын
Like he said, thickness...the clamato does a nice job of thinning out the drink...a lot a bloody's are too thick with tomato pulp...I like to use a mix of V8 (thick) with Clamato (thin) in my bloody's (Caesar's lol). But I also use pickle juice which thins it out as well

I want to hang out with him! Just love him!!! We’d be best friends I just know it! I’m crossing the border! You’re right, so much lighter than a blood Mary and you get to eat and drink at the same time!!!

What a drink. Wow baby. Vodka in a pinch, I guess. But if your going out your way with Walters, why not go with a nice blanco tequila instead? ...just a thought.

If a non alcoholic Bloody Mary is called a Virgin Mary, then wouldn't a non alcoholic Bloody Caesar be called a Caesarean?
