How to Make the Leather Pen Holder from Pinterest
It seems that any time I look at pinterest i'm shown this leather pen holder whether I"m looking for pictures of pen holders or not (I'm not, Pinterest, I'm not). So I figured if I made one maybe it would stop showing me. Results are tbd, I will obviously keep you updated.
Seriously though this is a really cool idea I found online and it's a simple and beautiful product that is easy to make, would be a really easy product to sell, and is a great gift because it's not too too personal like a wallet is. Give this one a try, no pattern no nothing - just find a nice sized can, get some paint sticks, and have fun

Thank you for explaining as you work. Watching leather work is nice, but those of us just beginning REALLY appreciate the guidance! Great leather work!

This is cool! Might also be able to get another piece of leather on the top of the base with holes cut out to match the above holes, to keep the pens/items from moving around

On the fly projects are the best! I think a good addition to this project would be adding a keeper at the bottom to keep whatever is in the holder upright and prevent side by side tipping! Thanks for the video!

My Dad was a Case pocket knife collector, I think this would make a great display for a few knives at a time. You could tailor the size of hole at the top for the different size knives.

Very cool project, and nicely done. BTW, a 1/4" roll pin punch down through the holes after completion makes nice indentions to the base so the pens don't slide around. ;-)

Curious if you have ever use the solid hammered rivets that require cutting and pounding. I love how they look, but of course they take more time to set

Just a quick thought - at 11:52 - if you're doing the stand as a gift, or a branding gadget, you could leave the piece uncut as a stand for ink bottle, a stamp or a vertical card holder.

You could also cut a rectangle on the top piece and it would become a coaster holder as well.

🎉GREAT VIDEO , AND IDEA AS WELL !!! At 1:48 when cutting, I am very Meticulous on how much lether I use and throw away, what if you cut it previously to how long you wanted, it really seems that you could have obtained 2 pieces out of that long 9 or 10 inch piece of Wet molded leather, is just an observation thank you for your time!!!

Sharpies should be stored upside down so they don't dry out as fast. You can remove the pocket clip from the cap and make your holes a little bit larger. Perfect.

I bought some leather to see if I can pick this up as a hobby but the piece I bought seems to crack a lot. is there something that I can do to it to allow I to be cut and have the corners rounded without it cracking? I was thinking of just adding water but not sure if that will ruin it. I could also pick up some leather conditioner. but I honestly have no idea what I am doing.
@chemclimber

You can try adding something like Neatsfoot oil which will condition the leather and make it more flexible. Also do you know what sort of leather you bought? Eg veg tan vs chrome tan
