I enjoyed this video, brought back memories of when I made a baseball bat in high school wood shop class, certainly not to the level of craftsman ship as these lol.

New to baseball, are the bats flattened at the part where the bat is going to hit the ball? Or is it curved all the way through? If so, how do the hitters aim where to hit?

The bat is curved all the way. The joke in baseball is “they give you a round bat and a round ball then tell you to square it up” - Ted Williams different hitters aim for different parts of the ball on different pitches. Hope this helps! Hitting is hard lol

My son just finished his first year of baseball at eleven he was going to play at 9 and we'll cov 19 happened. Haven played baseball myself for 14 years from t ball up going to camp's and having a grampa that played for the San Francisco seal's in the Forty's before being drafted by the US army 8th B-17 air corps and the A's almost in the same batch of mail my Grandpa taught me the game. So I decided I could catch my son up with modern equipment and old school bats . He broke a cheap ash bat off the t as soon as we switch from wiffil balls to real baseballs so I got him a aluminum bat he said he didn't like how it felt so as a Giants fan who seen Barry Bonds play with a Sam maple wood bat I thought I would get a Maple bat for him he told me this is a bat Dad so I bought another and now After seeing him hit the ball with success for a session Im trying to get next season bats before this season was over my son is big for his age and can swing a 3 drop at 11 years old hopefully I can buy him a Sam bat for Christmas just like the one I seen Barry swing thanks sir my son loves maple bats

Question, can I make a 34 inch bat into a 33.5 inch bat? Can I just cut off the end? I don't want to choke up. or cut off the knob end and put the knob back on somehow LOL

Couple questions.. I found something that is not on the internet anywhere. When you answer, you'll be the first. Everyone simply says "straight grain" but there is no such thing. Trees grow round. When you look at the grain on a tree trunk cross section you can not place a 3 inch circle anywhere that does not contain ARCS of grain. If the source tree is a 40 inch ash, the best chance you have is a blank close to the newest part of the growth.. which means fat wide modern growth that I doubt is a great choice.. Heartwood is going to be denser and thus there will be very curved grain. So let's start there for my next question. Where do you put the label, how do you determine that. Remember to reference the FACT that curved grain will be giving different performance when the label is turned skyward or earthward. Go ahead and answer the related question.. Do bats exist with your brand that have the label on RANDOM (50/50) locations such that the owner isnt aware wether his edge grain for his swing side is biased SKYWARD or for line drives at the pitchers feet. Remember.. your label will either be in the cradle of the "c-shape" grain.. or be on the BACK of the C-shape.. likely randomly. Given this "science", wouldn't you be doubling your profit if you pointed it out and convinced switch hitters that when they switch, they need to get the TWIN BAT you created from the same tree on the opposite side! Last.. After you go through all those blanks to select the perfect one, do you mark all the other ones you passed over, so no one else picks the wrong one? Or just throw them away. If you still use the blanks you passed over.. do you tell that player "this was a Barry bonds reject blank"? I'm excited to finally find someone with the credentials to answer and bravery to send me a check when you sell this science to each customer.
