That's just more of a reason to hate his teachers. Back then, he was only in second grade when his teacher told him to stop making silly books, seven or eight years old. That’s awful, if we aren’t teaching the new generation to be creative then what do you want them to become, dead eye employees at a corporate building, we would never be able to grow and accomplish more. My teachers have posters of these amazing people like Einstein or Isaac Newton, and Rosa parks who went out the box and did something different, yet you won’t let us? I always wondered why generations coming never made huge discoveries or created something amazing and it wasn’t because we ran out of ideas, it’s cause we were never taught to let those ideas blossom.

29:56 This name actually is movie specific, as his name is only Professor Poopypants in the books, and it was upped to be funnier in the way a child would find it funny. I'm not entirely fond of this change but its not a detriment to the movie. His parents and him are from New Swissland, where by canon, they all have silly names and he later changes his name to something thats found respectful in New Swissland, "Tippy Tinkletrousers". This man did not understand the language and culture barrier between his country and the US in the slightest. Fun fact: The silly names George and Harold make up for themselves are their actual names based on the chart provided in book 4 when Professor P forced everyone to have an equally silly name.

Back when I was a kid (about late 90s, early 2000s), ADHD was common (but thinking back on it, having signs of autism was only noticeable to some; so, I was diagnosed with one instead of the other). Unfortunately, that never stopped my teachers from assuming that I'm making excuses for it even though I was just telling them the reason to explanation as to why I'm showing signs of ADHD. According to them, "Chris has been drifting off to La-La Land instead of doing her work." I completely blocked this off from memory, but my grandma (from my late mom's side) reminded me that one of my old teachers got the duct tape, taped it around my desk and chair, and told me, "This is your area, do not move from this spot until it's time to leave." Both my mom and grandma was livid!!

When i was in late elementary and early middle school i ugh had a hard time reading books, in fact i still do. I remember finding captain underpants and being in love with how easy the books were to read. Not like the words used, but the format. The pictures breaking up long monotonous text was amazing for me. A few years ago i was diagnosed with adhd and dyslexia, not a demi god unfortunately but these books really helped me find joy in reading. Then my teachers and mom would demand i read "real books". I hate that term. Every book is a real book. If i like chapter books with pictures then that's fine. If i just wanna read books like "good night moon" that's fine too. Dav Pilkey genuinely helped me enjoy reading. I love this movie so much too.

@Alex-RavensPeak that is a good question. Although most people with ADHD also have trouble with reading traditionally as well. He also has both too, so he put himself into them. It makes for good representation and relatability when you think about it. This topic also reminds me of an episode of a show where a character with ADHD also has trouble reading and goes to a library to find a book that suits him. It's called Big City Greens and the episode is Quiet Please if you want to check it out. You might find it relatable and if not then at least entertaining.

"More about George and Harold than Captain Underpants [in part because] as a character he's fairly limited by design" that ties into something I hope they pull off with the Dog man movie. He's arguably an even more limited character by being mute, so while being the titular character, most of the writing relies on his interactions with other characters who can speak, particularly Pete and eventually L'il Petey. Honestly the thing that's selling me to go watch that movie is that I saw just a hint of L'il Petey in the trailer confirming he's in this movie. My favorite scene of this movie was the Flip-O'-Rama tearing the page. I literally pulled out one of my old captain underpants books and showed off the torn page on it.

this is EXACTLY what i needed i was explaining to one of my friends that captain underpants is the best movie because it shows how kids view their life, with this being the ideal fantasy for a kid. This shows how unrealistic this world is, and every kid just wants to be free, and do what they want, with their best friends. Kids view school as a prison, with no way out, and their parents force them to stay, and the teachers are represented as dictators with all the power, as that's what most kids in school see teachers as. But this movie has 2 best friends, breaking the 4th wall, making and laughing at poop jokes, and helping a bald guy in his underwear fight a mad scientist named Professor Poopypants, kids want their own captain underpants, but most kids never find one. But this is where they do, this is where kids go to feel like a kid, this is where I go to feel like a kid. I mean who doesn't think that the main villain of a movie named "Professor Pippy Pee-Pee Diarheastein Poopypants Esq." and think this ISN'T a kids movie. I could never stop watching this movie after it came out, I have such a deep emotional attachment to this movie, that I have watched it at LEAST 50+ times in my 15 years of living on this spinning rock we call earth. If it weren't for this movie, I would be less creative and imaginative, because these books said "WE BALL" and did it, making me think like that, giving me more ideas than what I normally would have thought of. I love this movie to my core, this WILL be my favorite movie EVER, because we all have a movie like that, and this is mine. 10/10 best movie by Dreamworks. I can also yap about why the Dog Man movie is a FAILURE compared to this movie.

I think another reason that the humor works is that the important aspect of having the characters finding that humor funny. Most shows with this type of potty humor either use it too much where it feels like it’s being forced down your throat, or having a potty joke occur and having the cast feeling cynical about it. When a potty humor occurs in CU, George and Harold (and most of the other kids), find that humor funny, giving a certain charm to them

26:41 You ever wonder why this moment with Mr. Krupp felt more intense than the other moments? Let me explain, during a majority of the film, we see Mr. Krupp always flipping out when he's angry, but in this instance, he's more contained, due to being at his highest level of anger. This is also done in the Disney movie Hercules for the character Phil, who is seen losing his temper and making a scene, but it's only when he's truly hurt and angry when he's more contained. This is gone over in better detail in my favorite animation book, "Character Animation Crash Course" by Eric Goldberg.

So this is the first i'm learning of Captain Underpants being banned in schools, and like that is wild to me! I loved Captain Underpants growing up! Like yeah, its filled with immature childish humor, but like its meant for children! Children think those things are funny! And like at the end of the day, is a kid laughing because someone was given the name "Poopy Pants" really something we should be banning? Like is it really that offensive to just let kids laugh at things for a bit? Like I get wanting your kids to have something more educational that can teach them something, but like every once and awhile the kids need a break from learning! Like they spend all day at school, they don't need to go home and spend every hour before bed learning even more. Let them read a silly book and take a break from all that!

I have to say, I remember reading the books. Not all of them. I only read the first few, but I did enjoy the adventures and fun things it was put in the books. The movie is a great blend of the characters and even making changes that honestly are for the better. For example, I do like how they make Mr. Krupp more sympathetic and have more personality instead of just pure evil principal who hates kids. Even going through an arc too while finding love with a woman. It wasn't forced, it felt natural and i really enjoyed it. Given I have only read the first few books, I decided to look up about Mr. Krupp later down the line and I was sad to see nothing happens with him. He loses his power of Captain Underpants and that's it. I also did enjoy having Professor P be the main villain, even though in the books, he wasn't even evil. Just misunderstood. So seeing him be a full on antagonist was interesting to see. I would love to see a sequel to this if they ever get around to it. Because I did love this movie.

Read the entire series when I was younger, and still love the movie to this day! Plus, this is probably the only animated children's movie I can think of where the toilet humor was actually funny and didn't make me groan/cringe
