Back in the 1940's /1950's everyone ate on 8 inch plates. Back than most 12 inch plates were called small platters. Society super sized food portions. We seriously must go back to thr 8 inch plates.

I learned about fanning out steak years ago and it's amazing how your brain can look at a whole steak on the plate and then look at a smaller portion of steak fanned out and judge them to be the same amount. Going to look for smaller plates. Thanks for the tip!

Totally love how you are trying to teach others how economical meals prepared at home can be. You are spot on! We eat 99% of our meals home-cooked. It's always my little game to calculate how much our meals actually cost (which is usually less than $2 per meal. Okay, we are spoiled that we raise our own beef & pork. My motto is cook once and eat twice (or even 3 or 4 times actually). I paid $7.49 for 10# of chicken leg quarters the other day. I grilled them all. We ate 2 meals of grilled chicken, and the rest I picked off the bones and ended up with a giant bag of meat that went in the freezer for sandwiches, stir-fry, or to put over mashed potatoes with gravy for future meals. The bones made some yummy bone broth to freeze. I buy lots of reduced food items from an Amish grocery who specializes in selling meats and all kinds of groceries that are near the best buy dates. It's a life saver on a tight budget. Boxes of name brand cereal are usually $1 or a little over, canned goods are 1/4 of the regular price, sometimes bags of shredded cheese are $0.50, and I found my favorite lower sodium deli honey ham for $1.49 (when they are over $5 at other groceries). It's a great way to stock up.

Good tip about the whipped cream cheese vs. bean dip.

Great Inspiration! 'm trying something new with my ground beef recipes. I cook up lentils with a little flavored stock. Then I add half a cup to each 3/4 lb of beef. For the most part I buy grd beef in the 2.5 lb container and get 3 meals for 4 people. But I've noticed by adding the lentils it goes further and you feel fuller.

GREAT video!! Question. Ever cook the potatoes in the fry pan on the grill? With our 100*+ California summers we utilize the grill outside as much as possible. Studies show that most American serving sizes are enough for 2-3 people. We only use 9 inch, white French plates. We eat slower. In the last 20+ years so many Americans scarf food down, rather than eat slow, savor the taste. Which also allows the stomach to fill slower, and in doing so, we fill fuller, and keep the stayed full feeling longer. As for potatoes, peel the green parts off.

Dream on Rocky. Good video. I typically just cook for myself and was discussing a similar concept with a 71 year old single man that I grew up with. I like biscuits and gravy with chicken fried pounded chicken breast but to make a onesie is a mega mess with little return. To make six or eight "steaks" isn't much more hassle than one. I then freeze them. Two frozen biscuits one frozen steak and gravy 25 minutes in the oven. I do the same with potatoes, salmon patties, hamburgers, chili and other meals. It really does save time and money.

Thank you PP for these videos. I have been pretty frugal for many years. I am now more frugal because of these videos. I was getting a breakfast sandwich at a convenience store on my way to work. They have gone up at least twice in the last year or so. The recent increase was 30 cents. Now it is $3.10. Too much for me. I now go to a local butcher and get a pound of ground pork for $4.00. Make my own sausage patties. 8 to a pound. English Muffins are 20 cents each. Egg is 25 cents. Cheese is 15 cents. Make up a bundle of 6 Sausage, Egg, Cheese Muffins at home. $1.15 each plus seasoning cost and cooking cost. Hard to determine these costs per sandwich. But not much. And I think mine are better tasting. I like Diet Coke. I was paying around $1.75 for a 2-liter bottle. Now it is $2.15. I found a way to get nearly 2 liters of Diet Coke for around 75 cents. Perfect for me.

You’re hilarious 😂 “if you can do better you can have a channel too”. PREPPER these are awesome tips. I prefer a bigger portion of veggies when I eat steak and this portion idea with the smaller plate is such a good reminder. I might just put my bigger plates up in the cabinet and keep the smaller ones within reach. I love your simple tips. I made a pan of potatoes 🥔 and cooked some pinto beans about 5 days ago and one potato I bought was green (total bummer) I threw it out but I made medium size burritos with my beans and potatoes. One medium size burrito is plenty and some fruit (whatever I have on hand) works just fine. Thanks again and have a nice weekend ❤️

@@mint4444 Safer to not carry a purse or bag. Personally, I wear pants or shorts with cargo pockets. My "wallet" is a 3" x 4.75" flat leather zippered pouch that carries I.D., plastic means of payment, and a little cash. It fits in a pocket. No fuss. Regarding protection, that should NEVER be carried in a bag, only your person. I like crossbody inside-the-waistband (sort of appendix) carry. Other EDC stuff includes my watch, phone, chapstick, 2 Kleenex tissues, O--Light S1 Baton flashlight, SOG Powerpint multitool, victorinox classic, and a pen. Everything fits comfortably in my pockets, with room to spare. You have no way of knowing I'm carting around that stuff, I am ready for just about any "everyday" need. I don't feel the need to carry a first-aid kit to the grocery store or hair salon. I don't need an energy bar or a quart of water, either. I prepare for likely situations, not freak stuff like the World Trade Center collapse. What's in your bag?
