Fajitas are a great way to extend whatever meat you have on hand. I had less than $3.00 worth of steak and this is how I put it together with extra stuff in the freezer. How many did I make?

Something I started doing last year was on payday after shopping and paying bills I looked at how much I had left. Let's say I had 600.00 left I would figure out how much one of my bills cost for a year. Like for one year of cell is 600.00 so I put 600.00 in a envelope mark it cell and use that to pay my cell all year. Next pay pick another bill do the same thing. Make a game of it. I worked on it all year and starting Jan 1 all I will have to pay is rent credit card and food cause I have envelopes to pull from. It helps with stress.

I really like that idea! I do something similar already (I put aside $$ each year in a savings account I named 'planned bills', for those big, but not monthly bills, like taxes, insurance, medical deductibles, etc.) but I think I'll do the same with the regular bills as you do. Thanks for the inspiration. :)

@@racheldebasitis8184 There are alot of videos about cash stuffing monthly and how to do it if you don't want to get a whole year ahead. I like baddies and budget she does big stuffing and two sister bees does smaller lower budget stuffings. I learned a lot. I'm very impatient and have a hard time slowly stuffing the envelope and waiting for it to get full so I put a whole lot in one at a time instead of a little in each one. I even have a envelope for each of my three grandbabies.

In our home, fajitas are super cheap. I always have cut up peppers and onions in the freezer from our garden, roasted jalapeno as well. We go VERY generously with the veggies, mind you. Stretches things, tastes amazing and is a more nutritious way to stretch steak, chicken or shrimp. Adding mushrooms is also a good idea. My husband just foraged some chanterelle mushrooms this morning, so I am craving them for sure. I season things myself with onions and garlic we grow ourselves, same with cilantro (I even freeze some and use out of season - does not look gorgeous, but tastes just great) tomatoes, same thing, cumin that I buy in bulk, chilis, salt, etc. When the store has limes on markdown, I buy them and freeze them for dishes such as this. Even a squeeze or two of lime imparts such lovely flavor. About every couple months, i cook up either some black or pinto beans in homemade chicken stock. Add in all the flavor goodies, portion out and freeze. That way, say we decide to make fajitas, I can thaw and warm some homemade beans to go alongside. Easy and cheap!

Sounds super delicious! And I didn't know you can freeze lime! Do you freeze them whole or squeezed in a container? Also... For the cilantro in freezer, I believe you can combine fresh cilantro with butter or olive oil in ice cube trays and use by the cube.
@NanaPapa123
@NanaPapa123 Жыл бұрын
@@THEGLASSMANSWORLD I freeze some (washed/dried) limes whole in a Ziplock bag. You can thaw and juice as needed. I also wash and zest some limes (freeze the zest on waxed paper on a cookie sheet - makes transferring into a container or whatever much easier, once frozen. The waxed paper can then be used to help start a fire in the wood stove. After the limes are zested, I juice them and freeze in tiny containers. That way, when I just need a little fresh lime juice for recipes, I'm all set.

@@THEGLASSMANSWORLD Limes and lemons are not nice for slicing after being frozen, but once thawed, seem to yield even more juice, it seems. One thing you can do though, is to take a lime or lemon that's really pretty, make nice, little slices, lay those on a cookie sheet and freeze. One frozen, pop into a container of your choice and freeze. These pre-made slices will look nice in a glass of water, as a garnish on salmon, etc. My good friend gave me some containers, little disposable condiment containers, like a restaurant would give you sour cream or salad dressing in for a to-go order. I use these for portions of homemade pesto, faux guacamole (mash ripe avocados, add plenty of fresh lime juice, salt, pepper and garlic powder) This freezes beautifully and say you want tacos but don't have a perfect avocado - thaw one of these little guys and you're all set! Sometimes I will thaw a couple for my husband and me and mix in finely chopped onion, cilantro, jalapeno, but it's ok as is. I do wash and re-use the containers, because well, I'm cheap, lol! They are also nice for storing lemon and lime juice, tomato paste, you know when you just need a couple TBSP for a recipe. Anyway, hope this tip helps! Have a great day! 🙂

I will be 65 in January. Thank God I bought my little 1969, 12x52 trailer 15 yrs ago. My daughter was 16 at the time and I knew she would be moving out in a couple of years. So this trailer needed a good bit of work. I paid cash when I bought it. Within a couple of years I had put a roof on and skirted it and built a small porch. In the meantime I painted and did the inside. I didn’t do anything extravagant, oops paint, and things like that. I still need to do a few things but, I did this as single parent with health issues. Now I have tiny home basically, that is paid for and I drive a car that is paid for. So I’m ready for retirement. I don’t live in a fancy home or drive a fancy car but everything is paid for. And I am debt free. And I live on less than $1,00 a month. When I first started watching your channel, I was so thrilled to see I had made wise choices when it wasn’t the popular thing to do.

I like to buy boneless pork chops cut thin. In my area I often find them 30% off at my local Safeway but even not on sale, you can get 4-6 in a package for $5. Pound them thin, dredge in flour then egg then breadcrumbs (I keep old bread in the freezer then when I have enough I make homemade bread crumbs). I fry them in left over bacon grease and put a little lemon juice on top. So yummy. We had an exchange student from Austria who taught me how to make this dish, schnitzel. Very filling too. You can also serve with potatoes, gravy or put on a Kaiser roll for a sandwich.

I live in a not-cheap part of New England, and I'm debt-free and retired. I also split from my husband about 18 months ago so I have less $$ behind me. I've still managed to live what I consider a pretty comfortable lifestyle while not going into debt. For instance, I noticed that every few months, pork shoulder and pork butt roasts are on sale locally for $.99/pound. I have a recipe for slow-cooker pulled pork that's phenomenal and super-easy. So I take advantage of that sale, and create a ton of meals for $7-10. For more expensive cuts (I really like to buy directly from farmers when I can), I treat the meat as an ingredient, rather than the focal point of a dish. SO - pieces of meat in a stew, soup, casserole, etc., rather than a steak. Or if I do grill steak, I slice it thinly and have it over salad or with other veggies, so I can get 3-4 meals out of one steak. I also make my own vegetable and chicken broth, which is better and cheaper (it's FREE - I make it from food scraps) than anything I can get at the store. Yes, food prices have risen. But there are ways to be smart about shopping and cooking, just as PP says. Everyone's experience and tastes are going to be different, so you may not be able to do exactly as she does, but use your smarts and your imagination, and figure something else out that helps you save. Use her ideas as inspiration, not as the only way to save money.

Same here. Living in not-cheap part of New England. I agree with the meat part of the meal. Treat it as an ingredient not the main part the meal. We cut our own lawn and clean up our own leaves on 2 acres and we are in our 60's (unheard of in this part of NE). It's our workout while the others are paying 1,200+ to have someone blow the leaves off the property. I see people just throwing money away everyday in this part of NE.

Tossed in frozen bits of onion, okra, green beans, bell peppers from end of season garden, bag of mixed veggies. Added a salad with it or 1/2 grill cheese to mix it up a bit. We all ate on about 10.00ish for the week lunch and dinner. Breakfast was toast/coffee/banana/or nothing at all. Yes, we can skip meals. Love my $44,000.00 home on 3/4 acre of land...paid off many years ago which has been remodeled with basic supplies, nothing fancy. House is nice tidy painted(I like to paint)(my paint job looks better than the ones done by contractors in the neighborhood) new roof and upkept. Yard is landscaped. Mowed and trimmed by me. Exercise is good for you, I promise. Not being a slave to consumption is great. Picked up a carpool no longer under covid restrictions of riding with others, so gas bill is cut down to 300.00 from 600.00 a month. Would move closer to job but it would be along the coast and more expensive, no real-estate is affordable at the moment, retirement is in 6 years so cannot justify.

It’s a great base for taco bowls and fried rice and you only need a lil meat or seafood to make a cheap meal (few tablespoons of mince, 4-5 frozen prawns bought in bulk or shredded ham/egg goes a long way. I just use frozen veg and a little kecap manis or oyster sauce to change the flavour, or add tomato ketchup for ‘red rice’. Just sharing as sometimes plain rice can get boring. I have some porterhouse steak in my freezer I got nice and cheap, so will need to add this to my list of meals to make this week :0)

Inflation still affects the debt free. My mom (age 89) is completely debt free. She has been a widow for many years. Her fixed income gets tighter as groceries, utilities, property taxes, auto insurance go up. She has kidney disease and has surprised her doctors by improving her health by eating a large amount of raw fruits and vegetables daily (in accordance with her renal diet.)So she needs to spend money on that food. I agree with your ideas and have subscribed for years. But inflation can effect the debt free.

I agree with you. I am debt free. My challenge is my need for medical specialists to keep my eyesight and help me keep my teeth so I can eat. There have been a couple months just this year where my co-pays for the month were $1,000, that's 2/3rds of my income. I have the best insurance I can get to have all my meds and specialists covered. If you've never had a major congenital medical condition how can you understand? So, how do you suggest I improve? I live bare bones in every other category.

Great video! Another money saving tip, especially for younger people, DON'T spend $10,000-$15,000 on a wedding LOL Also, We're up here in Maine, and every week there's a free food distribution, that not enough people take advantage of. We are always waiting until 9pm for the local supermarkets to put the marked down stuff. Keep on doing what you're doing and keep on making awesome creative videos. God bless you. 😊

Anyone who says they can't find meats at markdown prices is either not looking, or shopping at the wrong place. Of course, if one waits until late evening to go shopping, the reduced price items will be gone. I grocery shop in the early afternoon, when the crowds aren't there, but there are still some bargains to be had.

I make bulk meals for our family to help spread out the cost of items. I buy 95% of my meat reduced. Same with my produce. I can't always get what we NEED reduced, but when I can, we stock up on it. As for housing, we don't own. Our city is expensive but at least 75-80% CHEAPER than where my husband works! Rent is as reasonable as can be expected during these times. It's only 1,250sq ft, 3 bed, 1 office (too small for a twin bed), 2.5 bathrooms. 3 adults, a teen full time & her bestie most weekends (they share a room), 3 cats, 2 dogs! We buy what we NEED when we NEED it and try 99% of the time to get it on sale, clearance, reduced, free, etc. We have loads of allergies (food, environmental, medical, etc). Also HELLO from Canada!
