Do you reuse or discard the leftover tiger nut pulp? I usually dry it in the oven and grind it again through the blender to make my own flour. It's not as fine as the store bought flour, but it works.

I usually am pretty lazy and discard it, lol, but you definitely can do exactly what you said - and really, it's a good idea to do that to use up everything and save money.

Fast way to make milk is to use the flour and water to vitamix. I put about 6 T. flour 4 cups water. Can add a pinch of salt and a date if you want but I leave the date out since I often use it in entrees.

You don't have issues with the tigernut flour clumping when you do this? I constantly am hearing from people that they do, so just wondering what they might be doing vs what they're doing (I still haven't tried it myself so can't say, but just wondering if there is some guidance I can give them)

@@MicheleSpring I use hot water about 195 degrees and whirl for about 3-4 minutes. I pass it through a fine mesh strainer as I do soy milk but there is very little residue to catch. However, a little will settle out in the bottom of the milk jar, but I just shake it. I tried soaking whole ones before and never could get them soft enough!

Thankyou for your amazing process ...I am beginning to love tigernuts in my quarantine since they have no coconut milk at the supermarket. ( & esp the tigernut shortbread recipe 👌🏽) . Michelle on a more serious note Iv being reading all of John Sarnos books about TMS ( the author of the book I mentioned ) I self diagnosed myself with TMS fir most of my autoimmune conditions and experimented with his techniques rather diligently everyday for a week - I am now off aip & eating normal - with no pain . This theory has blown my mind ... but it works . Did you apply it outside of your back ache too and into your diet & other areas of your health??

I'm so excited to hear that the TMS stuff is working for you! I unfortunately haven't really been able to apply it much to other areas of my life yet - I mean, I'm trying... but I feel like I'm being inundated with SOOO much right now, fear, uncertainty, a great need for patience,etc (I mean, we all are), so just trying to stay on top of that rather than improve anything at the moment. I do think what we've learned from Dr. Sarno's techniques though will serve us greatly through these times though - to let the fear happen. To let the anger, resentment, etc of not being able to do the things we want to do happen. I think a side effect of this whole COVID-19 thing will be that a LOT of people WILL wind up in pain or autoimmune disease flares because they aren't processing their emotions, so we're ahead of the game on that. Once things settle down, then I'll look at trying to improve on using my brain to really target specific areas in my health outside of my back pain, etc. Hopefully that makes sense!

Can this be a replacement for most recipes with coconut milk? Probably not the ones with the full fat coconut milk but too much coconut milk seems to make me dizzy.
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 4 жыл бұрын
yep! I've used it successfully for many recipes instead of coconut milk, even ones that call for full-fat.

Hi Michele! Thanks so much for this video; I've now made tigernut milk several times and really love the taste of it. Questions: 1. Do you add water back to the pulp and reblend it, or do you just blend it once and discard the pulp? 2. Does tigernut milk freeze well? I froze mine since I made too much last week, but it turned light brown after I thaw it in the fridge, and I'm not sure if we can still drink it...what's your best practice?
@MicheleSpring
@MicheleSpring 3 жыл бұрын
If it turns light brown it's ok - it's still perfectly fine. I typically freeze mine in either ice cube trays or quart sized ziploc bags (that I lay flat on a baking sheet until frozen) and those work well. And as for the pulp - I've never actually tried that! I bet it would work well, though it may not be as flavorful. I think if you let it sit for a few hours, then strain the 2nd blending it would get more flavor though and be good, especially if you were using it to add to things like baked goods or something where it didn't matter AS much about the flavor (like if you were eating cereal with it or something where the flavor is front and center)

@@MicheleSpring Wonderful! Now it's Michele approved I'll go try out my thawed tigernut milk haha! I really like your idea of freezing those in ice cube tray or ziploc bags. Super smart - I'll definitely give it a try next time! Thank you so much for the wisdom!

That's great! I I don't think a lot of people on AIP or Paleo drink it plain though, but rather use it in other recipes, so that's why I provide this recipe.
