Haven't tried it, but to speed it up using solid tin sheet like you have, try putting two strips in a beaker and passing current through them like you were going to electroplate something. A lot more tin would come off into solution then.

I tried the same sort of thing making Nickel Chloride with Hydrochloric Acid and nickel strip. It took forever but it worked in the long run. Maybe try using tin powder next time, if you can find it? Cheers.

So the moral of the story is if you ever cook for us we should be afraid, very very afraid! Nah just kidding I know you would follow all safety protocols etc. Also on another note I am exactly the same when it comes to science, I can't stand for things to be even a fraction of a percent off!
