Just a couple of things. When you pour the water out of the chawan you need to dry it thoroughly before adding the matcha. The bowl needs to be quite warm and the matcha needs time to breath and release its aroma in the dry warmth before you add any water. Whilst the water is warming the bowl you need to put the chasen whisk (whisk side down) in the hot water so that the the prongs open and straighten and are moistened by the water. You were using this whisk with the prongs still curled which won't work as well. You need to warm your cup with hot water and then dry it before pouring the matcha from the chawan. I know these things aren't necessary but its a ritual that makes for a tastier cup of matcha.

But you need to dissolve the matcha really well before adding a lot of water and believe me if you don't know what you are doing, it will not turn out as well. If not dissolved properly, your matcha tea will be a suspension of matcha particles which feels sandy in the mouth. When you dissolve the matcha in a proper way, it results in smoother texture.

Watching you make matcha using the traditional method is funny to me because it's very similar to old school wet shaving techniques - using warm water to first heat a bowl, mixing the right ratio of soap to water, whisking, adding more water as necessary, getting the right foam. Sometimes there is value in the ritual of tradition, it's a calming process and forces you into the present. Although in a rush electric appliances are preferred!

That actually does look pretty easy. From my experience the best cup of matcha when you are not going to sift the powder is with a mason jar with a lid. It's fast, it's effective, it gets rid of the clumps. The only downside is I have to shake very vigorously to get all the clumps out for about 20 to 30 seconds. But this is a feature not a bug, this also helps strength train me while I'm getting ready for my matcha 😂

For the more modern method, the max temperature that the cheap frother being used heats up to is only 150 Fahrenheit (65 Celsius). That is considerably less than the 175 Fahrenheit (80 Celsius) that you specify the water be heated to for the traditional method. That may be a reason why the electric frothing method is not recommended and used by many other “experts”. An electric frother doesn’t get hot enough. However, I wanted to try it out. So, I used my costlier Breville Milk Cafe milk frother to make a cup of matcha tea. I placed 8oz (1 cup) of water and a half teaspoon (1 gram) of Ippodo Sayaka matcha in the jug, set the temp to the max of 160 Fahrenheit (70 Celsius), and pressed the start button. After a few minutes, I ended up with a hot, rich, creamy, and foamy matcha tea. Matcha tea is not particularly sweet (sorry matcha fans) but it was not bitter and very drinkable. I didn’t need to add any sugar and/or milk to consume it. QUICK! EASY! HEALTHY! WONDERFUL! And now I can save money not having to buy as much milk. 😉

I was told that the bamboo whisk and ceramic bowl were the best preparation, and that matcha should not touch metal in the prep (no metal spoon, metal whisk or metal container). Also make sure your Matcha is from Japan and organic as you are the tea is the whole leaf ground fine so any impurities would be included in the powdered product. I enjoy it MORE than coffee, and have created a morning concoction of matcha, dark cocoa, tumeric, black pepper and cinnamon, sweetened by stevia. YUMMY! And great for energy and cell healing.
