*Great little trolling motor **enjoyable.fishing** recommend had it hooked up to my 15 foot old town canoe and it pushed it pretty good with me and my son (220 pounds each).*

Two years later this motor is going strong kzbin.infoUgkxBZWgzfpS2Jj7JqIHyaSZjyVHNUgCKCBf Just uploaded a video of it after 2 years. We use it probably a dozen days each year on our small raft.-original review- We got this motor the other day and tested it out. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it seems good to me. It has all the features advertised - the motor housing is metal. We will see how it performs longer term and I will revise this review if needed. Some initial observations:- Good thrust, moves our boat around really well- It comes with a circuit breaker but no switch - so there's no way to kill the motor other than yanking the connection off the battery. I installed an inline switch.- The mount bracket is plastic and I worry it might break- There are a number of plastic parts that I worry about, but the most important ones are metal or some kind of composite

So all you,arm chair scrappers out there, build your better motor and do a video and then post it. At least this guy actually did it! Mabe not perfect and yes it will probably wear out pretty quick but hey it works,Funny but I dont see too many other people building one of these, only better. Good job. You can always take what you learn from this one,and build a better one next time.

I'm not an electrician, but wouldn't a deep cycle SLA battery, as opposed to an automotive SLA like the one you used, be much better for such a purpose? The deep cycle is made to be drained fully and recharged many times, whereas the automotive battery shouldn't get below 80% without shortening it's life drastically, as it's meant to be charged by a cars alternator...? People should know this !

+FeasiblePrepper Ok. You got me.. Soldering is exclusivly with tin/silver/lead/rosin and usually to copper..and when I think of welding I think of ARC/MIG/TIG like most people... and NO I didn't know that 'welding' in Italian is basically the same word.. (my ignorance).. .. its still,a great and even funny video..

Very nice and inspiring video. It actually inspired me and i build one. I would like to suggest some facts and maybe some solutions. The shaft that drives from the motor to the propeller reduction gear needs to be fortified. What i mean is that it might work for few times with this thin tube but soon it just cracks and brakes. So i replaced the shaft with a 10mm axle (easilly purchased in a hardware store by the meter) and welded a 4cm M12 nut (used as spacer) on both sides. The nut is 4mm thick so plenty of force to hold the shaft system. Alternatively if someone has access to a cardanic joint that would be the ultimate solution for a stronger motor that could easily deliver 1HP to the shaft!!!!!!Before sealing the grinders gear i would suggest graphite grease as it would be better for the gear. That's all from me. Keep up the good work buddy!! You inspire us!!! Ciao da Grecia!!!

Cool needs a steering mechanism so you can just sit back and drive. Like a stick steer on the side you push forward to turn right, and pull it back to turn left. Can mount the switch on it, and waalaa 1 handed steering. Not hard to set up just a arm on the motor. Run a piece of tubing with another piece of flexible tubing or wire inside to connect the two.

Great job! This is the crazy kind of stuff I do, but you are more inventive. I motorized my kayak by cutting a Min-kota trolling motor in half. Mounted the lower shaft in a drain hole in my Moorea kayak. The top "guts" were removed from the hand-grip, and mounted in a project box that sits in front of me. The advantage of the Min-kota is 5 forward speeds and 3 reverse. Started with a huge nimh pack, but later went with 16ah A123 lithium cells. Runs about 17 volts, but I haven't burned out the motor yet, after 3 seasons. Supposed to be 12 volts. Haven't posted it on KZbin yet though. BTW, do you get a vibration from your slightly out of balance prop? You can see it's not mounted dead center. Also, do you think you can make a shorter shaft? Seems you wanted to keep the motor far from the water, but lower would be ok.

That's a great idea but I gotta think that the pvc would wear out real quick. You don't seem to need that much of an extension. I think someone could improve on this already great design. You could also make the motor steer. That would be good.
