Very nice to see handcrafted items. To me they are better quality than machine made items. And I just like the fact that a person took the time to create something nice. Thanks for sharing your works and skills.

Just recently started watching this channel as I've become quite enamoured with traditional wooden and woven crafts over the many years time. We used to have a hand-made basket maker here some years ago, but it became very commercial, catering to the decorative set with too many pounds on their pocketbooks. Thrilled with your reliance on traditional tools and well tested methods. Lovely baskets my friends. Can't say I've seen a more well crafted example made since the 19th century. Thanks for your talents and time.

Beautiful! I wish I could try my hand at it. I have woven reed baskets before. My first go at it was a double-walled Cherokee basket. My instructor was amazed at the result. I'm pretty sure my ancestors were skilled craftspeople. It's in my veins. 😁

I can imagine the shop smells heavenly with shavings falling away. There are such steady hands working but precise measurements and knowledge of this basket by these extremely Skilled Artisans. If I would be given one of these beautiful Trug Baskets as a gift by my Family it would truly be such a treasure. 💝 I first heard about the Trug Basket on The Big Flower Fight, a Father Son team from Wales were competing and were making one. An oversized one that was representative of a “throne” and it would hold a variety of vegetables as they would gather around a massive table set for a King and his Court.

Do we Brits complain when coving gets called "crown molding" or skirting gets called "base board" or work top "counter top" (what do the septics count in the kitchen anyway). What about "bathrooms" without a bath or "wallboard" (we call it plasterboard) fitted to the ceiling? The misspelling of words like: programme, disc, metre, litre and aluminium. Also, a ladies handbag is not a purse - a purse is usually found in a ladies handbag. As a Brit I've known what a Sussex Trug is for as long as I can remember and if this video has enabled you to educate yourself a little then it can't be a bad thing. BTW thanks for the chuckle (or should it be chuckel).

I can only stare at the shavings on the floor lol. I would be the local begging to haul off your scraps. I need that stuff for my fireplace. I’m forever looking for stuff to start it myself. I even save toilet paper rolls and fill them with dryer lint. We burn every day from December through at least the first of March...and then a little before Dec or after March. I would legit store that stuff in prime barn space like it was gold!

@ Major General Robert Clive your comment should be the number one comment in this feed. As an American judging by the image for the video, I had feeling it was a basket. But from a cultural standpoint I thoroughly appreciated all the polite passive aggressiveness. It was as though you were saying we don't complain like Americans, we just appreciate the fact that it is what it is. Although as far as baskets go...how well do these hold up over time?

What is the average retail price of trugs? If you make 3 per hour and make £20 profit, after overheads, on each one, you're on over £2000 per week. Not bad for a cottage industry. Interesting video.

Ma Belle Draw knife
@unclefuddelmer92245 жыл бұрын
Ma Belle .. a “drawknife” or “draw-knife”. Used for centuries to shape, carve & plane any wood type to size. Come in several sizes up to about 2 ft. for full width logs, used for log cabin building. And down to pencil shaping size , 2 inches. Also handy for leather crafting but the handles are turned up 45-90 degrees which facilitates ‘pushing’ away opposed to ‘drawing’ or pulling towards the user. I hope this helps Ma ? Uncle Fudd
