Ian Barnett clearly demonstrates the craft of making a wooden rake from ash wood, skilfully using traditional tools and techniques in his workshop at Amberley Museum and Heritage Centre, West Sussex.

I am a native English speaker, even have a British mother, but def needed subtitles a few times. Translation: droive = drive rike = rake why = way flow = floor bundoo = bundle hoe = hole ode = old troy = try willy = really dreeyood (?) = drilled sore it = saw it etc, etc 😄 But seriously, this was a great video, thanks so much for the tutorial! Looks like a blissful way of life. I always wished I could be a carpenter. 🔨🪵🪚

Wonderful presentation. I'll bet that a personally hand made tool makes the work that much more pleasant.

A handle is made of ash wood, but the rest? Pins? I'm not a native speaker so haven't got it. Thank you in advance for an explanation.

I've found myself back here again because some unscrupulous "tool" stole my invaluable $7 telescoping collapsible rake off of my porch. I got it the one and only time I'd ever visited a plastic and disposable junk shop called the Dollar General here in Minneapolis, Minnesota. (I'd been accused of stealing by a patron as well and told the security officer that I did not intend to insult his place of employment but I certainly wouldn't risk police apprehension for theft of goods in a place like that. He simply laughed and agreed that I'd been profiled as a punk rock ingrate and I was free to go. Indeed, I took my neato rake and got!) On to what I came here to say - In a world where everything and anything is said to be at our fingertips, Google can give me next to nothing about how to make a primitive wire rake on my own. No configuration of 'DIY, homemade, handmade' or any other has produced anything more than ads and other unrelated junk. Finding this video in the midst of extreme frustration has yet again been the blood pressure lowering solution that I didn't know I needed. It doesn't matter a lick that the materials used aren't what I need because what I'm sorely missing -what today's modern society is missing is logic and critical thinking paired with self-driven creativity and pride in one's work. Your videos are an elixir to the soul. *Thank You* !

Well put , you'll find making a few bits lowers the blood pressure a bit further , just do it as a relaxation . 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Instead of using a iron rivet to stop the pole from splitting (making a weak spot) why not just whip the point where you want to stop the split with a string of natural fibers and fix the whipping with some glue or lacquer.

Worth a try , but it's been a rivet for as long as I've known these rakes , if you fancy an experiment fly at it
