I just realised that tteobokki is basically like our Italian "Gnocchi", chewy but made with another flour. I just made this and it tastes so good, it's so nice and chewy

Gnocchi is different because it didn't need much ingredients like tteobokki need. There shape is also very different.

When you do them at home you can also make them with the same shape of tteokbokki but shorter (it's just faster to them that way) the consistency is almost the same

hi, non-asian here, you can buy rice flour at your local grocery store, and instead of korean chili paste, you can just substitute some kind of hot sauce and even more chili powder. If you wanna add some kind of protein, instead of the fish cake you can add sausage. But most people don't even cook the food, we just come for nino so I'm useless😩

I just tried the recipe today... the sauce definitely came out on the sweeter side, so i added more soy sauce. But i wasnt getting the salty kick I wanted so I straight up added salt. This recipes call for it to be sweet, but I like mine sweet and savoury. I'd recommend you boiling the sauce till it's almost to the consistency you want it to be with your meat + vegetables, and add the rice cakes after to prevent it from overcooking and losing its 'springiness' (it's still going to be chewy, but not springy). then cook that for a few mins.

I want to try too. But I'm afraid of rice cakes won't cook well. Did you mix flour and water than cut them and cook after? Or did you mix and cook the dough and then cut them? Did you make rice cakes wait on fridge? I'm asking too much but I haven't eaten this before ever so I don't know how to do. I watched Dino's 2 tteokbokki videos and he made rice cakes differently, idk which way should I do. If you'll answer, I would be really grateful🙏🐻🌹💐

@@meryemduman5493 I was just as confused as you are now but I really wanted to try to make rice cakes so I just used a different recipe. I followed Maangchis' video and they turned out perfect! No steaming, no cooking and no resting the dough or rice cakes needed. SUPER SIMPLE! Of course you can still use the recipe for Nikos sauce

@@meryemduman5493 Yes I have seen that too. I think it was the Chinese version. I followed the Korean style. Yes, they will cook. I made the dough, cut it and then cooked it. The reason why my rice cakes were slightly hard was because when making the dough, I used normal temperature water to mix and not warm water as nino said. It might be a basic knowledge, but I am genuinely new to cooking. I'm just 17 XD Also, no I did not put it in the fridge, however I did put it in a bowl of cold water, as nino said, for about 5 minutes. BUT, even after it being very slightly hard, it still came out really good, I was more than satisfied. Just follow nino's introductions from A to Z and I am pretty sure you'll do good! GOOD LUCK!
