Hi guys! And welcome! You guys forget about the recipe he made, he was following a blogger who made a not so good version of my recipe but she's made two major mistakes: 1, she marinated the peels in salty and chili spices, major no. Second, you have to add BBQ sauce or similar. There, now, enjoy it! Much love!

@@ChefJana But the poster of your "stolen recipe" states you did it, as well as linking you and your KZbin page...and also states in the recipe that it needs BBQ sauce. Plus I don't think you necessarily created it since Venezuelans have been doing this kind of thing for decades...*shrugs* You sound kind of conceited to me.
@ChefJana5 жыл бұрын
@Michelle Allen anyone can cook anything, that's a fact, but make it delicious, is another thing. I didn't say shes "stolen" it, I have said "copied", a very different matter. Also, a fact is that I am the one spent half a year perfecting it and I was the one that also found out that the peels react to the chili and salt marinate, the potassium present in the banana reacts with those elements, making the peels rubbery. Like I have said in my vid, in India and Brazil it's been consumed for hundreds of years. It is also not accurate that Venezuelans have had this for decades, this was sort of emergency food for them, trust me. Yes, she did mention me but at the end, what she did was to take an otherwise perfected recipe, messed all up and spread it. You would feel the same if it was your project, you know that. Well, to judge me negatively based on a two line sentence sounds precipitated, and judgmental, no?

Hi, Chef Jana. I wanted to thank you for introducing me to using banana peel. I also wanted you to know I made the banana peel meatball recipe and it was amazing!! My kids and husband loved them so much that they ask me to make them again soon :) I am making this recipe (vegan pulled pork with banana peel) this weekend for my birthday, instead of going out to dinner like we usually do. Me wanting to be in the kitchen making my own birthday dinner is a major compliment and it says just how delicious I thought this was. You have further increased my reputation of being a banana snob--thank you very much :):):)

Inspired by this recipe, I made an Indian version of this recipe. I started out with some oil and added cumin seeds and let it cook for 30 seconds or less. I sautéed some onions, added some garlic paste, and added the peels similar to the video, but added Garam masala and salt at this point. Once the peels are sautéed ok, I added some water and covered it and cooked it for a few minutes. I tested it for the texture and spices, and eventually squeezed a good amount of lemon juice at the end! Served this hot on some baby toastinies with cilantro as a garnish for a party and everyone loved it!!

Many people like to purchase organic produce because they believe that it has not been sprayed with pesticides. This is not a correct assumption. The fact is most organic fruits and vegetables have been sprayed, but with different products. ... Organic pesticides are those that are derived from natural sources and processed lightly if at all before use. This is different than the current pesticides used by conventional agriculture, which are generally synthetic. ... Many natural pesticides have been found to be potential - or serious - health risks In the USDA tests, there was ten times as much spinosad on organic lettuce than was found on conventionally cultivated fruits and vegetables. 3 are listed as slightly toxic by the FDA. So don’t fool yourself into thinking you don’t need to get those pesticides off.

_Vegan or meat eater - I want to bring people together with food_ :) - compliment for the presentation, very nice - I have just concerns about the pesticides - if the industry knows humans do not eat it (normally) they double down on the use (same with oranges or lemons). I always buy organic when I conserve the peel in a brine of saltwater or sugary water.

At first sauté, the scent of banana was a little pungent and I worried it would taste like banana; but it didn't. I flavored it with my favorite spices for veggie burgers, like red season salt, garlic powder and onion powder, black pepper, and some grill mate spice, and some barbecue sauce. Just some FYI from someone that eats meat and tries to eat vegan often just because everyone should to some degree of their diet. Like really...... My only suggestions would be to use organic bananas and wash them before peeling, and also adding some smoked paprika or liquid smoke should make it taste even more like pulled vegan pork🙂

You can freeze the peels BEFORE using in this recipe? Would you scrape and shred them before freezing?
@nicolaybastos4 жыл бұрын
@@TrishLester Yup, you can definitely freeze the peels beforehand, which really helps with batch-cooking. Scrape beforehand, yes, but shredding is not necessary. Since you should defrost them fully before you cook with them, you can figure out how you want to work with them once defrosted. I would basically wash a mostly unripened banana, put the banana in a smoothie, then scrape the inside of the peel and cut it into neat squares of 'flesh' and freeze them stacked neatly in a container roomy enough to accommodate many more smoothies worth of peels. Do keep in mind that when you freeze them they turn black/brown and the fleshy texture becomes compromised. This is fine for making say, a bolognese, which is what I did, subbing the peels for meat (adding the same amount of mushrooms as peels makes for a really well balanced sauce, pulse both in a food processor to get the texture of ground round). If you're going for a proper pulled pork style substitute, the peels are best when fresh. Hope this helps!

Chef Jana, as far as what kind of banana peel, I would think that organic banana peels are safer to consume than those that have been gassed or inorganic ones. Thank you for your happy mood while teaching cooking.

So glad I found your channel. I can't believe banana peel would taste good but I will give it a try. I didn't realize banana peel was edible.

Hi Chef- I have made this several times for family and it’s been a big hit! BTW, I’ve also changed up the sauce for another type of dish- a Mexican wrap with brown rice and srichacha sauce. Yum!

Oh, sriracha, must be heaven with sriracha... This recipe is so versatile, I love having that with curry sauce, chipotle sauce, but my favorite is still the BBQ sauce... ;)

Just made these today, I’m a vegetarian not a vegan however I loved the idea, here in France there is not much jackfruit, the peel is so similar!! The sliders were amazing! My meat eating fiance ate his 2 sliders in under 4 minutes 😂. He wants more now and so do I, they were delicious. Thank you Jana 😊. I made mine with grilled sweetcorn on the side.

Ooooh!!! I can wait to try this out. I made some banana peel bacon a while back and didn’t like it personally, but I think that’s because of the white part you mentioned in the video to take off. You definitely showed me how to cook seitan correctly so I definitely trust you with banana peel as well. Can’t wait to try this out. I’m so glad I found your channel.

Brilliant .. I'm greedy. I'd have two open faced halves just for myself.😁 Here's a tip I use for the kale. If you freeze it then smash it in the bag, it comes out in small pieces.💖
