I really like that simple rock cliff face technique. The look you achieved rivals the use of plaster rock molds.

Two tips for anyone that wants to do this: 1) a 50/50 mix of black and modpodge coating everything, including the underside, will help with durability and hide any potential misses with the painting step, plus stops pink reflecting from the bottom 2) add a weight (or several) to the bottom to make it more stable, personally I use leftover ikea metal parts

These are great tips!

What about applying modpodge and then using black primer? Why do you mix the black and modpodge?
@thekotawolf3 ай бұрын
@@killahownageI realize you asked 2 months ago, but just in case: mixing paint with mod podge helps you see where you applied it, so you don’t miss spots. Easier to tell where the foam hasn’t been covered yet.

Where did you find a bag of coarse and fine sand? Even Hobby Lobby doesn't have what I am looking for. :P

Store-bought stuff tends to have a very consistent grain size. Nothing beats going outside and finding your own sand!

Once you applied the flock, did you do another layer of sprayed on PVA glue to lock it all in? If not have you had problems with the flock falling off with use?
@OkayHobbyTime2 жыл бұрын
Spraying flock with glue changes the look of it so I always avoid doing that. I never have issues with flock coming off. The trick is to give the terrain piece a good shake once the glue has dried. So any flock that wasn't glued down will come off.
@andresaguilar33753 жыл бұрын
For the spray bottle, what’s the ratio of water to PVA glue? This looks amazing!
@OkayHobbyTime3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! And the ratio is very little. Just enough to fill the bottom. For my newer hills I skipped that step entirely and they turned out fine.
@jasonshirrillmusic Жыл бұрын
just use a wire foam cutter 19-20 bucks saves you all the mess clean up and the time.

For sure-a great method as well if you're not after this particular look. I used that technique on the mineshaft entrance video.

Does anyone know what kind/brand of foam is used here?
@OkayHobbyTime Жыл бұрын
Hey there, I use Foamular XPS insulation foam. It can be found in hardware stores (depending on where you live) and is usually used to insulate homes.
@douglasvan4848 Жыл бұрын
@@OkayHobbyTime great, thank you! Can I ask what brand of hot wire foam cutter you would recommend? Cheaper would be preferred on my end, but I don't want something that will break or be more difficult to use because I go for the least expensive thing out there.
@kyleclavette94452 жыл бұрын
Are you using wood glue for putting on the flock?
@OkayHobbyTime2 жыл бұрын
Not for flock. I use PVA glue with a bit of water added. I find that wood glue is a bit overkill for flock.
@kyleclavette94452 жыл бұрын
Do you spray a sealer over everything after the flock is done?
@OkayHobbyTime2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kyle, I don't add a sealer. I let it dry over night then give it a good shake to get all the loose flock off. Haven't had any issues so far.
@kyleclavette94452 жыл бұрын
@@OkayHobbyTime sorry for dumb questions I am new to building terrain.. the step where you spread glue on the top of the hill.. is that watered down? And what is your glue to water ratio?
@OkayHobbyTime2 жыл бұрын
@@kyleclavette9445 I like to add a bit of water so it's easier to spread. But not too much. What I usually do now is dunk my brush in water, then use the wet brush to spread on the glue.
