This fellow is a smart cookie. I'm 70, 'suspect he's over 50 anyhow. Let me suggest NOT using a split lockwasher- but a 'waffle' type lockwasher to allow finer adjustment of pressure, then also use Locktite Blue to prevent the nut from vibrating off. :) Very nice / 'gotta go try it now

MAN!!! Thank you so much, I'm in Houston and was stumped as to why my weed eater doesn't perform like in other videos. It's bc I have that same super thick St. Augustine grass!!! Gonna make one of these to get my sidewalk back, then switch back to the string. Thank you x a million!!!!

I’m in central Texas and I hear ya’! Stupid St, Augustine grass takes over my driveway and sidewalk and a string trimmer just makes it grow faster! I need to do something like this!
@pattiannepascual3 жыл бұрын
try pouring salt in the cracks or white vinegar. just make sure no animals walk on the salt as it's very toxic to pets, who will lick it off their paws.

Now that's American Ingenuity! Can-do, make-do spirit! I wonder if the tops and bottoms of large cans, like institution size food cans and big coffee cans can be snipped as super-inexpensive and long-lasting cutters? They could even do brush cutting. Double-up the can-end blades on the trimmer, or even tripple 'em, and the thing would last for years. Very nice hack! Might have to experiment, try washers between each blade, etc

Medium soft silicone/ hard rubberish material may be better to avoid breakage. Hey, I'm wondering if you can get sugar free sweetened ice cream in U.S? Australia has 1. And it's expensive.

Brilliant! Would it work better if you clipped off the edge of the lid? I'm a creative (lol, cheap) person, also, and in the spirit of reuse-reduce-recycle, I have made replacement parts for my pool filter (outrageously expensive to replace) which have actually lasted longer than the original equipment. Of course, the folks who make their living selling the replacement parts don't like my creative solutions much, but if I can make something that lasts five years out of an ice cream carton lid, why can't they supply that stuff without gouging the consumers??? :-)

this looks like a great idea if it lasts long enough.Has anyone here tried using a cd or dvd? I was going to try that soon. if pieces crack off a dvd, it would only give you more sharp edges. not sure if it cracks in half though .I will have to make time to try it.

"Installing weed eater string/line was never fun" lol - You make it sound like it requires a huge expenditure of energy in order to re-string a weed eater, holy fuck it takes like 1 second to cut a piece of weed eater line and 3 seconds to wind the line around the spool.

Why are you edging your yard that way? The big red wheel is on it and designed just to do that.... Edge and be manageable. You want to really test it out, then edge the yard using the wheel and stand it up. That's gonna show you just how long that blade will actually last. Good idea tho.....
@OOICU8126 жыл бұрын
Looks like the homemade blade isn't wide enough to use that way.
@garychandler42966 жыл бұрын
Troo Dat. Edging is nearly half of the equasion, and edging that way just promotes sooner growth, leaving you with edges before mowing periods. Use an edger or make this from 5-gallon bucket lids, to achieve the depth necessary. Probably a better alternative anyway, and thanx for posting!
