2 important things to keep in mind 1 : Clean the graphite well before use, the wax from the battery will produce heavy smokes and catch on fire, potentially destroying the wires, it also doesn't stay off if you blow it off, it'll just light back up in fire untill the rod is cool enough. 2 : Use thicker wires and don't keep the graphite on the object for too long, the wires will heat up and catch on fire, that's extremely dangerous.

Just add a diode (simplest type, so-called rectifier diode of at least 8A) in series (you can solder its minus pole on "+" of the battery and then the cable on the "+" of the diode). This way nothing changes much, only the battery is better protected from short-circuiting.

@jacobleeson47632 жыл бұрын
@@levisylvester I have a real welding helmet. I have actually done it the other way though and didn’t go blind. But you can get dark enough sun glasses they do exist. Just have to actually check the specifications before hand. The automatic darkening of the welding ones can be nice. For something like this though real welding would actually probably be too dark though even on lowest setting. Welders can provide up 250 amps even for cheap ones. This battery can supply maybe 50 amps at most. If you use a big car battery then it can provide 600 amps but this appears to be a cheap lead acid battery not designed for cars. I have one that is almost identical I use for powering the air intake fan on my melting melting furnace. I also have a real arc welder capable of up to 300 amps that I have used without even sunglasses before. Obviously you can get hurt by extreme light especially in the uv spectrum. But it’s not as bad as people say. You are looking at long term damages. Not short term. If you do it everyday for years you’ll notice it near the end of your life. You may have pain for a few days after doing it in the short term. Hasn’t happened to me yet though.

yes, and no. i see 1 person saying it in the comments, but i will give my own piece of advice: shorting a battery is not going to "kill it". when you short a battery you basically a resistor from the wire that you shorted it with. meaning, the battery will discharge itself. and discharging the battery under a certain voltage (10.2V) starts damaging it. but wont cause an explosion so calm down! that is also why we have 3 short circuit categories: 1. non-short: basically, just using the battery what it is meant to be used for 2. shortage: shorting the battery, but not draining more A than the battery rated A 3. FSC (full-short curciut) using the entire battery capacity. car starters are nearly an FSC..... so stop telling me, that every time you crank the car your battery wants to commit suicide. shorting, and FSC shorting a battery is not killing it, only rapidly discharging it, and THAT discharge is what kills the battery.

When you connect a bulb to the battery you do the same and does not cause any harm.
@fixitdude97485 жыл бұрын
@@3dmixer552its not the same higher current is drawn from battery to this. If it drains battery below 10.8v battery will lose a cell from damage. And will keep.losing cells the more.you drain. Thats if doesnt explode by then.

@@fixitdude9748 Well, obviously you have monitor the battery voltage but it is technically the same. You can drain the battery with a bulb as well if you don't monitor it.

Si no lo hubiera visto, no lo hubiera creído. Un carboncillo y... 12 voltios ? Imagino que es para metales delgados. Buen video.

Try inserting a pin Down the centre of the carbon rod and see if it works as filler rod?

My friend switch the wires and your weld will be so much cleaner and will not glow so hot being dangerous to you but great little welding machine thumbs up my friends

Welded with car battery for years with welding rod out 4 wheeling in the woods. The carbon rod in here is just burning the metal.
