For anyone whom might be wondering the MOTOR used is a 3 phase ac as to the 3 phase full bridge rectifier to change the sine wave from ac to dc so that he could use it to charge his phone but yhe problem is 12 volts which isn't good for charging phone batteries as to why most phone chargers out put is 5 volts at around 1 amp now as to the amps of the d.i.y. wind turbine wasn't shown so that is a mystery but overall it's a very nice project to try.

When the wind changes it could rip the wires out by wrapping them around the pole. The design fault I encountered years ago and needs to be transfered to a brush plate that will allow the generator section to fully rotate 360 without hinderence. Insulated copper rings would work rotating on each other like a bearing with wires soldered from the generator on the top one and the feed wire to the bottom one.

The main issue with this sort of generator is the weathering. Once water gets into the motor, it's had it. Combine the wind speed necessary to make to make your design work, with a shower of rain and it won't last a day. Corrosion or short circuit will prevail. Nice try though, if you live in death valley but if that's the case then I'd prefer to keep the cooling fan;-) On the other hand if you did this for a school project; well done! Take no notice of the criticisms and keep designing stuff. The world needs people like you.
@starryskyhighway96288 ай бұрын
It's obvious this one was for school project or some sort of one-time experiment thing for project. Unless the main scope is designing project then this one is not the ideal one. Mine just simple fabricate and simulate to obtain readings for wind energy experimen. I can make use of this for sure since i only got the stingy budget of just a 100 dollar

Great tutorial. I have kind of the opposite question. I have to run a fan at night to sleep, so i am looking to attach some cogs to a center piece on the fan so that while the fan is running, it will also be generating electricity so it isn't wasted. I can see it's pretty much the same as this, but attaching everything to the other side of the fan or something. Seems pretty simple. Also, since you have this outside, i recommend a metal fan blade.. that plastic will break so fast, especially exposed to the elements(sun, changing temps, wind, etc.).
@crazyhunterbozcodm5313 Жыл бұрын
bruh that will generate electricity but not enough to recover all the electricity ur wasting as most of it will be lost as heat and you will be wasted more energy than you are generating so in simple terms you will have a higher electricity bill

Scott he's using a three phase AC motor as a three phase generator and a three phase full bridge rectifier to change the three phase alternating current to single phase direct current to either power a led light or to charge his phone when there's a power outage. You can search the internet for the motor and fan blade he's using.
@ArkLord0013 жыл бұрын
@@jclowe735 What kind of motor is it? brushed or Brushless? Brushless is more efficient and the one here appears to be brushed but that's just an observation based on what you can see through the housing of the motor. What's the Blade length, Pitch, width? weight of the fan? Adding a random fan blade to a random motor can cause problems such as rotor cavitation where beyond a certain speed it will vibrate beyond the capacity of the armature shaft to withstand it and damage the motor. I'm very familiar with the concept of 3 phase motors. I build and fly Brushless RC planes which are 3 phase and you can use their power systems to generate 120Vac via an inverter and a 3S battery cell to power pretty much anything depending on the C rating of the battery and how long depends on the mAh rating. From what I see here, it's a concept with too many variables that will fail. Even in the video of it operating you can see it vibrating badly. I can achieve the same thing with an Inrunner Brushless motor that's literally 3.5 cm in Diameter and 7 cm long through an ESC 3 phase speed controller. The problem is if you use a fan blade too great a length or blade pitch, you'll burn up the motor (Literally). Very inventive but without a proper parts list, it's still concept with too many failure points.

great video! As long as it's a DC motor it is very legit...i may be wrong but i believe AC motors have an issue generating power..the bigger the DC motor and the propellers the better. though get too big and you may need to install a brake system as to not blow motor during high winds. i would implement this idea combined with a "handtruck", 55 gallon drum, shelved and door modded of course..., deep cycle gel batteries, some solar panels,and a good chargeing computer and you would have a pretty solid mobile free energy(besides initial cost) power plant... if your lucky you may be able to aquire the solar panels that also create energy from rain(or rather most likely just transfers the kinectic energy on the water droplets(which could be collected for drinking) into electrical energy that we can utilize)... cheers...
@woodruff37995 жыл бұрын
The volt meter is on DC...not AC. So that would be DC. A full bridge rectifier could be built in. A motor no, but a generator yes.

That's a three phase AC motor connected to a three phase full bridge rectifier then to the load. Since the motor is a three phase AC motor it doesn't matter which direction the motor is turning because the current goes back and forth between what the motor is connected to. AC is short for alternating current. Now add that three phase full bridge rectifier and the current is changed from AC (alternating current) to DC (direct current) which is single phase which is what most of what we use requires for normal operation.

so as others have stated a 3 phase motor is used, recommend between 25-400 watt motor, if you cheap out you lose out. Want the result pay for a good motor, im getting 100 watt which peaks at 130, typical 2 amp 5 volt usb uses 12 watts, usb-c uses 15 or 16 watts. if you order on ali ship from spain over china, get 24v single shaft without base 100 W. That way the only thing you can screw up is the blades. 3 phase is more efficient, you might not see the led flash on single phase until it rotates faster because current is choppier on single phase. All the other components are self explanatory

aside from the obvious large appliances like Clothing dryers, fridges, etc, EVERY single device in your home has a 120VAC power supply that drops the voltage to between 5 and 24 volts DC to operate. It makes more sense to convert the items to be powered to run on DC plugins and use this type of system to power those items and eliminate the entire 120VAC to X volts DC power supply.
