Thanks that’s a good design and perfect for charging phones etc, especially if camping etc. I’m making a mini VAWT approx same size but using a cordless hand drill motor to charge 12v batteries, I’m qualified fabricator, but know ver y little about electronics. Could you advice me on what size Blocking Diode I would need, it’s my only obstacle to tbuilding the VAWT

You'll need a bridge rectifier on the turbine to smooth the phases and that will stop anything flowing back to your turbine aswell, it has 4 diodes in it. You won't need a hefty one, the higher voltage and amp rectifiers will have more resistance. Look up how many amps and volts the drill motor you have needs to run, the rectifier should be able to handle that amperage. I doubt it will spin as fast using the wind anyway so you probably won't even need that much. Most rectifiers can handle well over 20v and are 1+amps, cheap and easy to find. Look up how to wire it and use a cheap pwm solar charger to connect between the turbine and your device, your device via the 2.1amp usb ports. You may need to attach a light or something to the load output of the controller and set it to discharge excess energy to the load though I highly doubt you'll generate that much.

@@stupidscruff5794 I thought Bridge Rectifiers were to convert AC to DC? as my motor is DC that wouldn’t be needed, I don’t want to buy/use a Solar charger or charge controller as that would defeat the object of using reclaimed motors to avoid buying high tech. That is unsustainable and toxic, i will just make sure I have more than enough battery capacity connected in parallel to take any charge I would get also regularly check battery charge. I know I only need a Blocking Diode to stop battery power going back to the generator, I am keeping it as basic as absolutely possible, which means just the motor/turbine & batteries, with the Blocking Diode in between.

No, DC generators must not only match voltage but also other electrical characteristics such as current, polarity, and frequency to be compatible with the electrical system they are connected to. Also, not having a controlled charge will damage your devices/batteries and/or cause a fire. Don't pay attention to the many silly, fake videos in here that show it to be extremely easy and if you really want to be richeous about the environment, don't bother with batteries or anything else you plan on charging. I have been down the exact same path you are embarking on and now know a considerable amount about the subject. My advice is to help you save an awful lot of time and potentially your batteries/equipment too.

Nice construction but from what i can see, there is an external power powering the turbine. If you know the pysics around wind and its usage to drive a mechanism, you will know that the above does not respect the claims.

@@paul1979uk2000 ken here: 13w won’t do much’ won’t charge fast either. But it will charge.But if you have phones, computers, medical devices, flashlights, etc, it won’t be enough. If someone is looking to happily survive a grid down situation, a solar powered generator is the way to go. But $$$$ ! You can get small generators for charging. Like the kind Patriot supply offers. That’s about all they’re good for and a couple lights … but that’s something! We have Inergy generators. I think they’re the best for the $$$$ (I did a lot of research and I have the background). They don’t advertise much nor pay reviewers. They don’t need to. With their military contracts and high quality, they just keep up with orders.

Because: 1) On average, there is much less wind near the ground than at an altitude of over 100 metres. 2) The electrical power of the wind is therefore dependent on the third power of the wind speed: 1 100% more wind = 800% more electricity yield!
