Cosplay Apprentice

7 жыл бұрын

You would never believe this was made out of gym floor mats (EVA Foam)!! It looks amazing and is super easy to make. If you are wanting to make your own Wonder Woman Costume, this is a great way to make it happen and have it look amazing! I walk you through the whole process from creating the pattern for the breastplate to make it fit you and your body shape all the way to painting it!
In this apprenticeship, You'll discover how to make Wonder Woman's Breastplate Armor from the live action Wonder Woman films! Made simply out of EVA floor mat foam and contact cement! I may not have the right to make a tutorial on how to make female cosplay armor given that I am man, that inadequacy is only exponentiated by the fact that it is for Wonder Woman who comes from a land without men. ;) Please accept my humble effort to make this beautiful costume!
Whether you are making Wonder Woman's Costume from the first movie or the 1984 movie then this video will be a great refrerence for you!

Although I may be un-qualified I do think this armor turned out super super AWESOME!!!!!
This build is made of easy to obtain materials like Floor mat foam, and craft foam, and takes minimal tools like a razor blade and some sand paper. It could easily be done in a small apartment or room. No need for a fancy workshop!
If you make this build, comment and tell me about it and please send me pictures, I would love to see them and hear about it!

I have been using this tutorial for my costume and it's turning out really well! One thing I will say, I used the same paint listed in the materials (Dupli-color Metalcast Anondized coating), and it did NOT show up over black. So, what I did was a layer of silver spray paint (which shows up well on black) and then did the Dupli-color over that. It's even better if your coat of silver isn't totally solid- this adds some really cool dimension to the armor. But I had to go get another can of the Dupli-color just because I tried it over black and it didn't work, and this stuff isn't cheap.

If you’re a massive fan of Wonder Woman then I recommend Watching *‘Professor Marston and the Wonder Women’.* It just came out the end of last year, it will blow your mind. It’s about the inspirations of Wonder Woman. True Story. Also he was in a Polyamorous relationship and the women he was in the relationship with inspired Wonder Woman. Fact/spoiler: They also invented the lie detector. William Molten Marston, Elizabeth Marston, and Olive Byrne. The lie detector ended up inspiring WW’s Lasso of Truth. Watch the film, it’s super interesting and engaging. The cast are all amazing and gorgeous. Very underrated film. These people were way ahead of their time.

Hey I'm currently following your tutorial to make my own costume. I've learned so much from your videos. But one question..did you use the heat gun to form the whole corset to your subject? I'm having a little difficulty figuring out how to glue all the pieces together. I have masqued it all together to make sure that it will fit before gluing it. But would heating it help with the contact cement?

Sorry one more thing..should u heat up the foam and form it to my body while cooling before I glue it together? Or can I do that after gluing the pieces? Would it make it easier to glue if preformed?
@CosplayApprentice
@CosplayApprentice 4 жыл бұрын
Yay! I'm excited for you! :) Great question. So you can go either way or both, you can glue the pieces together first and then heat them up and shape them to get them to fit together better or you can heat shape the piece to get them closer to what they need to be and then glue them together. I would recommend doing both. Heat the piece up and shape it closer to what it will need to be to glue together and then after it is glued heat it again and add any additional shape or smoothing out that need to happen and shape it to fit you better. When. It is all glued together You may need to heat it and shape it in sections at a time because it is hard to heat it all up at the same time and one section will cool before you can heat the next. Hopefully that made sense. Please let me know if you have any additional questions as well. I am happy to help answer as many questions as you have. :)

Another great tutorial! I don’t have a heat gun, so would I be able to use a hairdryer on the grooves instead? Would this still work?

So, odd question. When you mention adding some flattening plastic to help with the holes, which I didn't think of and that's genius... would Kydex be okay for that as well? I wasn't sure where to find plastic material!
@CosplayApprentice
@CosplayApprentice 6 жыл бұрын
I think you could use kydex for that as well, I don't know how expensive it is but if you've got it that should work. As long as it can flex/mold to the right shape :) if not there should be a link to the plastic I used in the description, as well as a link to a kit of all the materials I used on this build :)

This is amazing!!!! I can't wait to try to make it! Do you by any chance have a replacement for a heat gun...could I use a hair dryer?
@CosplayApprentice
@CosplayApprentice 7 жыл бұрын
+RavenousRavenclaw Thanks! Most of the time a hair dryer doesnt get hot enough or it takes a long time to try and heat it up. You can get a heat gun for under $20 usually though online
