Good job on that project and very good work on your video of it. Going to get busy building my own sound box. Going to skip the drywall and just use thick plywood for my first iteration. Would you do anything differently on the insulation? Thanks for the video and ideas!

Would love to see a follow up on the vent. We have this exact issue at work and built the box a couple years ago but haven't insulated because the temps are already getting high.
@EdgasketGarage3 жыл бұрын
I never added the vent because it simply doesn’t get hot in there. It certainly gets warm but I have the intake vented through the drywall and collects air from just behind the exterior siding. That feature must help more than I expected.

@@EdgasketGarage Put a draining load on it and let it run for 24 hours. Unless you have the world's first perfect insulator, the whole box will gain heat.

I'd like to build a cabinet out of foam board and add a vent tube on top with a fan to draw heat out and vents underneath to allow airflow from the bottom (with filters of course since floor air is dirty). Maybe even have a secondary foam board layer with an air gap?? Add a nice exterior on/off switch so the board can stay together more.

ChampionHoodie I have been monitoring the temperature. It honestly doesn’t get too hot but I haven’t stressed the system yet. I plan on cutting in a vent. The noise difference is minimal. That insulation is key!

how is this holding up? Does the unit overheat? Did you end up adding ventilation? How did that effect the noise?
@EdgasketGarage8 ай бұрын
I didn't add a vent. I cut a small hole inside which already had an open vent that extended under the extrerior siding. Noise is great. Temps don't ever exceed ambient summertime temps.

@andrewshedron425 Жыл бұрын
Sound travels in waves. Every time it has to pass through something the wave gets smaller. If you would have put an open space between every layer it would have been way quieter. That's why insulation worked best. It is full of dead air spaces. Plenty of material then air then material then air and so on.
@EdgasketGarage Жыл бұрын

@EdgasketGarage4 жыл бұрын
Hate to say it but I haven't used the vent. The intake for the compressor runs through the drywall and up to the soffit. This has offered enough ventilation that the space isn't heating up.

Did you add a ventilation on it? Still waiting for the video.

No it turns out the hole in the drywall for intake pulls in enough air from outside to keep it cool in the box. I had this thing running for an hour straight and the temps stay down.
@a802jz3 жыл бұрын
I accomplished the same by draping a heavy moving blanket around my compressor without touching the motor/pump of course. And run 2 small fans to draw cold air in and push hot air out.

@steadyeddie74532 жыл бұрын
You're definitely shortening the life of the air compressor. Your vent will need a fan in the ductwork to be effective. If you vent to the outdoors and the fan is drawing the hot air out, you will need a register mounted low on one of the enclosure walls. More noise. If you pull air in from the outside then you risk pulling in hot humid air. No easy solution. You fix one problem and create another.
