I'm so glad you made this video. So many people don't know how to make a bed properly. Back in my younger days, housekeeping was taught in school so everyone knew. A beautifully made bed is so inviting and such a treat after a long day. It really invokes that restful state of mind. I like white sheets too b/c I can bleach the hell out of them. LOL However, my favorite is when I can hang them on the line in the bright sunshine and they get that wonderful clean-air smell and the percale gets that awesome crunchiness. I’m from France and at first I was a little bit confused when you explained the hospital fold. Our hospital/military fold is called a « squarred fold » (un lit « au carré » in French) and it is a little bit different : 3 tucks as well but the final fold is at the edge of the corner of the mattress, so you get a 90° angle. I really enjoy those little cultural differences. Love your channel, it’s really fun to watch and you give us so many ideas to make our home confortable.

Just wanted to say thanks for what you do! I would appreciate your opinion on something. Usually if I'm staying at a hotel a few days, I just ask for fresh towels while there and nothing else. I don't need the sheets changed daily and if the trash gets full I change it myself. Doing so, makes me feel I'm giving someone a chance to finish their job early or a blessing by having one less room to clean. If my room does get picked up and my sheets changed I leave them a tip my last day there. Is all of this ok or does management give you a hard time about any of it and take the tip from you? Thank you!

@@Dwights_trash_can I will confirm that allegation. This was an excellent tutorial on bedmaking, thank you! I'm a retired RN (in Australia) and what you referred to as a "nurse's fold" we would call a "nurse's corner". At our house, we stopped using doonas (you would call duvets) years ago, and now use alpaca blankets. The topsheet and blanket/s respond very well to the nurse's corner technique. Alpaca blankets are soft, light, yet warm. We put a coverlet over the topsheet and blanket/s, with matching shams (and a cushion or three!), and fold the coverlet down each night. Thanks again, and blessings to your little family.

Here in Germany there is no such thing like a flat sheet over a fitted sheet. You either use one or the other (plus fitted sheets are a lot more common, you rarely find a flat sheet in stores). 😄 and I’ve never seen this comforter (?) thing you put on top instead of a duvet. 😅 So basically we use a mattress protector, fitted sheet and a duvet (maybe a little decorative blanket on top). So amazing to see how other people make their beds 😄

The hospital corners actually are designed specifically to keep the bottom of the bedding from coming undone and exposing the patient's legs. Helps maintain body temperature in sleep. ( Momma was a nurse whose children always needed to know WHY... LOL)

Mini Story time: Once when I was a kid and my family was in the process of moving, we had to stay at the house we had already moved the bedding from, because of inclement weather. My family stopped by the store and us kids picked out a throw pillow and blanket set each. The tag was massive and when we were setting up our sleeping spaces, I took mine off. It was so long-what did it say anyway? I read it and was immediately scared that I broke the law. It didn’t make sense. How could anyone else own the right to the tag staying on when my parents bought it? I looked over at my law-abiding siblings who were sleeping on top of their pillows, tag and all. I was in this alone. Nobody else to go with me to tell my parents what I had done. Sleep did not come easily that night. I hope my parents don’t get in trouble for keeping this fugitive. In the Morning I approached mom. Who knew what lay ahead? The best words I heard that day were “We are the consumers.” Who cared what that even meant? I was no longer a 10 year old heading for jail.

Yup, I am over the duvet, way too much trouble. Also the California King has made things a lot of trouble too, too large and too much running from side to side. Also I do not throw pillows on the floor at night, ick, I just cut down on the number of pillows I use. I remember making "hospital corners" on beds when I was training to be a nurse many years ago, but I don't like to tuck in all the way up to the top as it makes it too difficult to get into bed at night, I do the corners at the bottom and leave the rest alone. Some people eliminate the top sheet al together, but I do like to use it. Also I am of the "only white sheets club" just like the look myself. My advice, do what you want, it's fine. Love your videos Brittany, and oh those kids, so adorable.

Why are duvets the freaking devil?! I've always had comforters, but fell in love with this gorgeous blush pink crushed velvet duvet from West Elm last year and decided to give it a try. Despite having clips on each of the corners, the comforter inside always slips down leaving nothing filling out the top and creating a pool at the bottom of the bed. It also looks nowhere near as plush and fluffy as the product photos; I found out later they usually put 2 super thick comforters inside the duvet to achieve that look and it's just way too hot for that in Southern California.

Are you serious, just try washing them.

Ok I give you credit for the tucking, pillow cover tip, and the different stacking ideas. I struggle with this and I am tired of it being work at night and in the morning. Still I want it to look clean and neat during the day. I think I am getting the hang of it but my problem is my eye catches little things that I don't like. I settled on one layer of queen pillows standing in the back and 4 20x20 arranged in the front...for now.

Love the way you did the pillows...less to take off the bed at night!

At first I was anti tuck because I have a beautiful chenille bedspread with fringe that drapes the floor. But I like the idea of tucking the sheet and then maybe using a comforter drape for color and style. Also love my mypillow because it can go in the wash and dries on high heat!

I’m a nurse and have done the hospital corner soooo many times. It does make a bed look so much neater.

My favorite tip was: remember to have fun with your spouse! The endings of your videos when you feature your husband with you always make me laugh. You two seem to be a really wonderful couple!

I think she has her hairstyle from Anna Bey. I love this video. I watch many of these, and after ALL of these years, I finally learned a couple things!! YAY!! PILLOW PLACEMENT!! aye aye aye I could never get that down. I think now, because I have 6 sleepers, 2 shams, and decorative throw. And, placing them whichever way "I thought" worked (nope...) and by the time I was finished making it, the pillows about ended where the throw blanket was laid. I turned a Queen size bed into looking as a small shaped box. Everything is white; I love the pureness of it; but I also love black as well as mauve. So, I switch up the decorative. I have a 4-post, with the draping tie-top curtains, and that is so romantic looking. But I sleep alone, so.....NM that point. So THANK YOU for making these video's, they have finally turned my bed into a QUEEN as it should be lol!! Minus 4 sleepers, which I store in my CLEAN bench at the foot of the bed. Amazing. OXOXOX
