I love your idea for the back up drain. I have a similar (much more modest!) set up but the moving bed filter sometimes overflows when the silt builds up at the base. I will definitely have a go at building one - thanks for sharing!

Brother you got that figured out. 😁👌🏼 NICE set up!!

Do you have any videos on the construction details of your single barrel system?
@DominiDiscord2 жыл бұрын
I had an aquaponics system and it was amazing how much water i got through a bell siphon with a 1/2" standpipe.
@koipondfanatic77603 жыл бұрын
Very nice video. You mentioned “siphon” return back to your pond. So the return line is submerged in your pond and this the water flows faster than if it were above water level? I hadn’t thought of that design.
@sweeteessnelling76014 жыл бұрын
Also, what air pump and air stones are you using to move the water to that degree. Thanks

Awesome! Is that how the "final" version of the filter? In the overview video you had it a bit different with the third return pipe capped off.
@jcardona14 жыл бұрын
Yes that was the initial setup. These changes I made after that video. I do believe this will be the final layout!

Can you explain how your underwater returns work? How far below surface do they enter your pond?
@sweeteessnelling76014 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing. Very impressive. Would you please tell me the purpose and function of the 2 white PVC pipes that run inside and outside the barrel. Thanks
@mikmok_DS4 жыл бұрын
I was wondering about those two PVC pipes as well. Can't remember if he talked about them in the overview video.

Those are actually just little "legs" of the platform I built to hold the air pump. The air pump is a Hakko 40L and a generic 9" EPDM air diffuser disc.

Hey! Would I be able to just use Uniseals instead of getting the electrical connectors/bulkhead? And all three returns are 3 inch going out? Thx!

Have you a link for the filter cages/shower drains please?

Thank you for sharing. Do you have a simple schematic for the filter? Where the water enters the barrel and where the water exit to go back to the pond?

I got the idea from here www.koiphen.com/forums/showthread.php?68339-Birdman-s-Fluid-Bed-Filter

Are these still in operation after 4 years? I'm looking to build some barrel filters and and am trying to decide on which pumps to use. Are the Periha pump still running?
@jcardona16 күн бұрын
Still running, both the filter and original pump!
@KoiAquaponics3 жыл бұрын
What's your pump flow rate and air flow rate on that 55 gallon drum?
@jcardona13 жыл бұрын
I'm running a Periha PB23000 at full power which is supposedly 4500+gph, but I think that ratings are a bit over stated. Air pump is a Hakko 40 which does about 51cfm
@KoiAquaponics3 жыл бұрын
@@jcardona1I think your moving bed media drum lends a great starting point to making a protein skimmer for the pond. Try one of those drums with a clamped lid and put a bulkhead at the top of lid with a 2" or 3" line and guaranteed tons of bubbles will come out. It'll be a dual function system

Could you let me know where to find the strainers from can't find them any where

Search on eBay for "suction strainer". Just checked and they're still available

what type of bulkhead fitting are you using?
@jcardona13 жыл бұрын
They're actually 3" electrical conduit fittings sealed with polyurethane. Cheap and effective bulkheads!
@philvu26223 жыл бұрын
@@jcardona1 thank you. I'll do some research tonight.
@mrdkoser Жыл бұрын
@jcardona1 yes, I was seeing that too... much cheaper than bulkhead fittings for sure. No leaks or issues?
