Here's my rudest and nastiest comment: Hey ryan, I'm a young person who enjoys playing guitar and has played guitar and bass for several years, and I have enjoyed modding my guitars for almost as long as I've had them, as I feel like a lot of people experience, we like to make them play and sound the way that we relate to the most and the way that we enjoy the most, and I've had a blast doing that, and you inspire me because you're so joyful about the way that you play and modify your guitars and unapologetically are an amateur, which is so rare on youtube, and it makes me feel like there are people out there like me that are not professionals but still enjoy the modding and playing and fun experience of guitar, without being a prodigy or someone who knows every single technical thing there is to know about building guitars and modding them and being a luthier or tech. It's really inspiring how you just kind of have an idea for a video and just essentially mess around with something for a while and then add some crazy drippy Reverb or some hilarious fuzz to it and call it a day, and just enjoy it for what it is rather than overthinking it and making it so formal and scientific like a lot of people do, which is fine, but it sometimes takes away the fun and the passion for me, and I want to thank you for your great videos and I know you probably could get more views by making it more scripted or focused, but it just doesn't have the same vibe as just a dude enjoying his guitar modding in his garage. I hope you never stop making these videos, and the guitar modding videos always make my day when I watch. Was that rude and nasty enough for you? I hope you have a great day and I'm looking forward to the next video!

Other thing has tremendous impact on sonics is pickup placement and the HB looks like having pickups in a slightly different position.

I can finally confirm that this guitar has real JM pickups. Moreover those are identical pickups as in Squier Classic Vibe and Squier 40th Anniversary Jazzmaster. Today I have checked P/N of Squier 40th Anniversary pickups and they are made by Roswell JM-B-ADWH and JM-N-ADWH. Thomann (owner of HB) confirmed that exactly same pickups are used in JA-60 model. EDIT: Roswell confirmed that pickups in HB has bobbins from plastic and one in Squier 40th are from fiber flatwork. Other then that: those are exactly same pickups

The bridge needs to be in a spot the will allow intonation at the 12th fret. Basically matching the distance between the nut and the 12 fret and then from the 12th fret to the insert on the bridge. My two cents: the capacitor value has a significative impact on sound too; letting more or less higher frequencies pass. For a brighter sound, choose a lower value. Something cheap (although high quality capacitors) to try with different values maybe :). The fact the bridge pickup is nearer of the bridge on the Fender may excplain too a bit of a brighter sound, but on the HB, the neck pickup is at same position as on the Fender, with a longer scale, so it should be brighter (if same pickup) than if set nearer the neck. Very aesthetic modification with the trem, nice! Thank you for sharing, although my comment comes a bit late!

I know people with a commercial shipping account with a major shipper and their discounts aren't as drastic as you'd hope. I think the biggest benefit is they don't have to spend 5 hrs a week standing in their local post office line with all their shipments. They take a truck load of boxes straight to the drop-off location by the airport that has a conveyor belt that goes up to the parking lot. In this case, the shipping cost should be considered as part of the item's cost. Their products are still a great deal with domestic shipping. I've also started ordering at least 4 pickups at a time to save on shipping.

Great mod! I think the pickups sound pretty close to a Jazzmaster with the 1Meg pots in it. As for your question of twang vs brightness: In my understanding, twang is more about the attack, which mostly comes from a guitar's construction, and bright pickups help to make it audible. I would prefer a Les Trem over the one you installed, but all in all, this absolutely was worth it!

Tip: I had the same problem with a roller bridge that had small pin holders that were too small for any guitar I own. But then I found out by messing around a little bit that the smaller pin 'holders' of my roller bridge actually fit reasonably well inside the original larger pin holders :). Fairly easy to make the fit tight with a small piece of paper around it. May be not perfect, but I find it to be a great solution if you want to try out a roller bridge on several guitars because it is very easy to reverse and there is no need for any modifications to the body ;)

@bradmathis81962 жыл бұрын
A parallel treble bleed (cap in parallel with resistor) needs to be tailored to the volume pot value so that the taper of the volume is not too adversely affected. If a 150k resistor is used with a 250k volume pot, a 300k resistor should be used with a 500k volume pot, and the capacitance cut in half to keep the same bleed frequency.

If you want to find the optimal value for a pot, use a 1 Meg pot and connect both the pickup hot lead and the output hot lead to the center wiper . Dial in the best tone, then disconnect the leads and measure the value to ground. Use that value pot , or add a parallel resistor to the 1 Meg across its outer lugs for the right value. Connect the circuit normally.

The truth is you can not cheap out on a Trem. The pricey ones are machined parts accurately cut to spec for the moving parts that are good enough for the aircraft industry. The cheap ones are simply cast in a mold which can be different on every single from the same mold. In short you can easily be out of tune the moment you move it once, let alone getting through a whole tune.

I bought one for my HB kit jazz master and I am really happy with it. I bought some of their pickups as well so the shipping cost didn’t seem too off to me but Ryan is probably right about that part. Lol Xtrem is legit though. Decent tuning stability in my experience

I recommend spending the extra on the Les Trem II. No comparison.

There isn't a better trem made for adapting to Gibson or a copy guitar using the Duesenberg product. I think of it as a steering wheel that when I turn it to the right it smoothly makes the turn, All other trems are like a steering wheel that randomly moves you to the left and at best not too much. Too much or just a bit it will never the less happen. In short when I am unhappy with a product I am not 'semi' unhappy, I am pissed!! I want to pick up my guitar feeling happy just grabbing it, not wondering if it will even get through one tune.

@@hughschick6847 I’m sorry, friend. I don’t know why I even said that. Honestly. My bad. ✌🏻❤️

Great mods and pretty easy to do. I'd probably be a bit hesitant to modify an expensive guitar, which makes an HB perfect for novices like me. Thanks.

I doubt i have that much sway. Its fun to think I do, but I might sell 5 or 6. (if i had to guess).

Now you got me going! I recently added two humbuckers and new pots to my single humbucker Yamaha RG110, those pots are 500K, I want brighter Tele like sound, so it seems that the way to go is 1meg pots and coil split. No trem, I do not use it. Maybe I should do the same with my Epiphone Les Paul special II. Although, if you turn your volume all the way up, the resistance should be zero on any pot. Perhaps it would affect the effect on the ·tone capacitor· at the low end where the resistance through the capacitor is then two times higher and it would block its effect better on the high tone end. In other words, when the tone is set on low, the pot resistance is set to zero and the effect of the tone capacitor is at max, when the tone knob is set on high, the resistance on the pot is at max, then, if you add more resistance, the effect of the resistance on the tone capacitor should be higher. What's your take on that?

definitely more of a jaguar sound with the 1M pots. i would want to see 500k on the Harley Benton and maybe a lighter spring in the tremolo. then you’d be cooking with gas!

The pot change was good brightened em up. The Harley Benton pickups though to me sound closer to that voicing of ceramic pickups have. The Fender pups had that true alnico sound overall. Maybe looking at the pickups and swapping magnets to alnico if they're ceramic will change the voicing more on them. Definitely the pot was a big improvement and took it out the dark.

Great video man! a highpass filter tone knob will close the gap between the 2 guitars forsure. The new pots added the brightness you wanted and a highpass will give you the twangyness youre missing. a highpass fiilter is just a cap in series on a tone pot but I guess youre already aware of that.

But an actual Jazzmaster has more lowmids giving it that spaghetti western sound (opposed to a Jaguar, which has less of the low mids and doesn't have that caracter). So a highpass filter would just get it further away.

Jazzmaster can really do anything, it has all the highs and lows

Great video. But I would junk out the trem. Can't beat the real jazzmaster trem. Thanks for saving me all that shipping moola on the junk trem!

yeah, i keep meaning to take the trem off. It creaks bad. not sure if im going to swap on a les trem or take it back to stop tail.

The stock JA 60 pickups sound more like p90s. They are thick and perfect for my rig, oddly enough.
