I love your ideas. One thing I have issues with is, if I'm invited to someone's home and they have the TV going in the front-gathering room. And they don't turn it off. Why am I here? I don't even like this show! I came to visit. So, in my home, the TV is in a smaller TV room that isn't the main living room. I know it seems weird to people that I don't have a TV over my living room fireplace, but it is a conscious decision to have a place where we can just sit and visit.

I totally agree. No TV in my living room either. If you want to watch TV, stay home. For overnight guests, they can go settle into their designated room and relax and watch TV.

I totally agree with you! I have trouble hearing if there is a lot of background noise, so I feel frustrated if we go to someone’s home and the tv is blaring!!

I love the tip about the ambiance lighting! Normally I would never keep small lamps on, but it really does look so cozy in the evening to have a couple small table lamps on to create "conversation nooks". I also agree about making sure my home smells pleasant. We have a dog and I always fear I've gone "nose blind". I worry guests will immediately smell the dog when they walk in!

This was such a lovely video, all your ideas are wonderful, but just the fact that you want everyone to feel appreciated when they come to your home speaks volumes about you. I especially love that you make snacks for people and drinks for everyone and tell them to go in your drawers to get whatever they want to eat or drink. That is such a sweet and caring thing to do. As usual your ideas are right on ❤ I need new furniture for our family room. Most of my company comes in that door. The furniture I have now is leather recliner and recliner couch. What are your thoughts on people that invite you over and you find yourself at the dinner table with the others viewing their devices, even as you are speaking to them… their eyes never look up …

That drives me crazy!! We don't do phones at the dinner table, so that way we avoid those situations, but it's tough when you go to someone else's house where they do this. I think it's so rude! Personally If someone keeps looking at their phone while I'm trying to speak to them, I will just stop talking to them. Hopefully they get the hint, but most of the time they don't!

Just be sure your guests are not sensitive to aromas that you are using. Some of my friends can have breathing problems with nearly any scent.

Please please there are so many of us that are bombarded by smells and chemicals. We love a pleasant smell but even if “natural” it can throw a person with sensitivities into a type of shock. No, it is not an excuse it is a disease if too severe. MCAS has disabled my sister, always sensitive but the worst is the fabric soap and softeners that will smell for weeks. I am super sensitive to room fresheners and candles. Hand soap and lotions can set a guest up for head pain, sore throat, drainage that can last a couple of days. Please suggest fresh fruit smells only! And get to know your friends, fresh flowers may not be welcome.

Yes do what works best for your household. I think the majority of us know our own friends and family members well enough if they have sensitivities. These are just a suggestion for most everyday households, and not to be taken personally.

Most of us are thankful for Leslie's suggestions. Suggesting fresh fruit smells only is catering to a minority. It is not the majority of us who must do the adjusting, it is the people with the challenges. And I agree with Leslie, we know our guests/family members well and rarely invite total strangers into our homes whom we know nothing about.
