I have Eargasm and Loop earplugs that are better filters and feel better than foamy earplugs -Bonus, the the Loop ones look cool and you can just leave them in after you get off your bike. Look at Ugly Bros jeans and hoodies, they have CE rated protectors and kevlar and aren't hideous like basically everything else

I almost always wear ear plugs, but I got the kind that filters out certain frequencies. Definitely worth the extra cost. I sympathize with the tinnitus problem - I've had it for a very long time. Ear protection that blocks all sounds is useless because, ironically, all you hear then is the tinnitus sound. Drives you batty. Comfort suggestion? My seat cushion is my best friend on a long trip.

I’ll have to give the filtering kind a try! And I used to think everyone hated ear plugs since all you heard was ringing 😂 it took a bit to figure out it was just me.

Good suggestion on the seat cushion! I built the foam to be dual density, but a good gel pad would certainly help on real long rides.

A few comments: I have yet to find a throttle lock that works as well as the old style throttle screw found on older BMW airheads and old British bikes. As for earplugs, I have found those dedicated to shooting sports are more comfortable than foam and easier to use and do a better job at reducing noise. If I happen to forget to put them on I am immediately confused by all these strange engine sounds that I never heard before.

Yep - this cb still has that throttle screw too, but it’s not quick to deactivate. Definitely a brave choice for an 80mph cruise control 😂 not saying I haven’t done it… And I know what you mean, when I don’t wear my plugs I can hear all the induction noise from the carbs. It’s the only noise I miss with my plugs in 😁

Regarding bars, a set of bar risers is cheaper than replacing, and lets you keep your favourite bars. I had an awesome set of flat Renthals on my Honda Hornet but they were a little too low for my height. Added a 2" riser and the bike instantly became so much more comfortable.

I have the tinnitis due to ice hockey. I have tried several motorcycle helmets and the ones that claim excellent wind noise protection work worse than my open face helmet. So I think you are correct and I just ordered the Alpine Motor earplugs you tested. That might just be the solution. Thanks.

also i would like to tell you to replace the bar end to a heavier one if your bike vibration make your hand go numb people said just change to a foam grip and it help but bar end is cheaper and i can keep my favorite grip

Yes, that is a good idea! I believe they even make weights that you can add to the insides of your bars.

Always, always, always wear ear plugs, and I've noticed that on my new beater (old, highmilage, BMW GS), the windshield is creating this buffeting that totally drains my head due to the increased noise. Have tinkered around with windscreen alot, but I've come to the conclusion to just remove it to reduce the wind buffeting. I never get the same fatigue from riding my old R90/6.

Great insight! I recently added the fly screen you saw here to my bike but I’ve yet to go on the highway (terrible weather all season). I’m sure I’ll have to adjust it so that the wind doesn’t hit me right in the head. Sometimes it better to just leave the airflow unbothered, but I’m excited about tucking in behind it at high speeds. We’ll see.

I would also add; earplugs let you know what the bike is doing too (such as, any unusual motor noise).

Exactly. I can shift right at redline since I can actually hear the engine instead of wind!

for pants, try the icon 1000 MH1000, they have removal knee pads without taking the pants out.
